Planning to boost my car soon... it will still be a DD. Id like to DD it on around 275 whp to be safe, its completely stock.

Link to kit: http://cheapturbo.stores.yahoo.net/hobtukit1.html

Anyway. my question being, is it worth it or should i piece together a kit? i know that eventually i want to build the car a bit, lower the CR, new rods, wrist pins, ITR cams, new valve springs. Nothing major, not going for a 400 whp car, just maybe around 360 on high boost and 300 when im just cruising on the weekends.

Im also having trouble deciding what to use for fuel management, or where to get my car tuned. Im located near Spokane Washington.

So considering my only goal right now is to be boosted at around 280whp DD, should i invest in a 3300 kit, that doesnt include the cost of gauges, injectors, fuel pump, or tune.

Or would it be much smarter to piece together a decent kit that would take me just as far? Help please.

Don't bump threads 15 min after posting it... thats just annoying.

Stock internals typically like to stay below 8PSI, just word to the wise, and 280whp is ALOT out of a stock internal B16 FYI.

thought b16 could handle (wouldnt push it) 350 whp on stock block, you obviously wouldnt want to DD that.

But, peakboost kit im thinkin ill be at 260 whp off of 6-7 lbs.

im hoping.

psi doesnt really mean anything. stock internal b16 will handle 300whp all day long. i dont think his goals are overexagerated, but op, im in kind of the same boat as you, the peakboost, and fullrace kits are convenient, you have all high quality stuff in a complete package pretty much. since its all togeather for you, is why you have to pay so much, where if you were to peice togeather a kit, using products of the same quality and of your choosing, you could save yourself some extra money for a tune. how much i cant say.

Yeah i thought 300 whp was safe to dd, and that they could handle up to 350 (but you wouldnt DD that)

-PeakBoost Stainless Steel equal length exhaust manifold---- with downpipe most likely 800

-Garrett T3/TO4E turbocharger $650

-Tial 38mm wastegate $200

-PWR 24x6x3.5 Intercooler (2.5" inlet and outlet)mounts directly to factory bumper support 475whp supportable!

Or i can go e-bay and get a decent intercooler for much cheaper.

-Tial blow off valve
$200 (tial) $50-100 (ebay knockoff)

-12inch "Slimline" radiator fan--$50

-fully TIG welded complete 3 peice 2.5" charge piping with bead rolled ends to prevent piping blow offs anywhere from 200-300

-Stainless oil feed (-3) and oil drain (-10) lines (featuring earls fittings.)

stealthmode oillines $75

-Weldless 100% leakfree oil drain line

above

-All necessary 4ply pipe couplings
-Strong T-Bolt hose clamps, provide greater clamping force than the cheap worm drive clamps
-all necessary gaskets
-all necessary installation hardware

odds and ends - $100

thats right around 2500... so i can undercut myself around 700 dollars, but i havent calculated shipping.

so say im saving 500, but i have to piece it together, i dont know if its worth the headache, because peakboost will at least warranty the kit for manufacturer defects, to whereas my kit wouldnt have any sort of warranty.

I think for peace of mind i might as well go with the namebrand kit..

What do you think?

It is good for peice of mind. And knowing eveything you get will fit and work the way it should. If your were getting a kit If it was me Ide spend the little extra cash and get a full-race than peakboost. Much better quality. But you can peice a kit together your self just buy good quality parts

I would piece together a kit. I bought a kit before I really knew a lot and looking back I regret it. For the amount of money I spent I could have pieced together a much better kit.

for some reason i just fear piecing together my own kit...

But im sure i could save tons and tons of money by doing so, considering i only want around 300 whp tops...

And if i do piece together a kit, im hoping that all that would need to be replaced for future goals are injectors and turbo.

Ill look into it more...

there's nothing wrong with peakboost. i have one on a fully built b18c. when i first put it on a stock typer motor it made 320whp at 10psi. and if it's a stock bottom end it can handle 6-10psi safely with a proper tune. it's all in the tune. the peakboost is similar to the full race and it's really nice! the only thing with this kit is that it's built to handle lots of power so 280whp might be on the lowside so don't know how it would drive. and defintely keep it to 300whp or less for a daily driver.

i was thinking the same thing.. boost lag....

but im hoping that the .57 trim turbo isnt too much

Any idea on when the turbo would be spooled with a stock 1.6l pushing a t3/to4e .57 trim .63 a/r compressor?

Thanks guys.

I had the same setup on by b16. With peakboost mani and downpipe. running 9psi. Full boost was about 5k rpm.

You woun't regret buying the peakboost kit it is a quality parts.

Lol. My graph with a stock b16. It was daily driven for 5 months before I sold the kit. 14 lbs of boost.

Read honda tuning. They have an article with a stock b16 with only forged pistons making over 500 horsepower. I have seen a bone stock ls motor handle 15 psi on a couple of cars, and for a decent amount of time too. Stock motors can handle easy 280-300 horsepower. If you want it to last forever then be more conservative but a stock motor can handle a good amount of power. Mind you that TUNING IS THE KEY!

peakboost makes good turbo components. Have you looked into an AFI kit? the pricing is a little cheaper.

Sure you might be able to save money piecing together a kit, but I would go with the Peakboost.

They have made slight changes to make the fit and finish better. From what I hear they are great to deal with aswell.

My opinion is to do something right the first time even if it costs slightly more. Plus with the Peakboost you are not limited. There manifolds and parts are really nice and if you build the motor you always have the option of more power without changing parts.

Hope that helps.
