Blox manifold installed, high idle. Help« » Reply  Edit

I just picked up a blox intake manifold for a '94 gsr and installed it. But now it idles high, about 4000rpms and surges back down to 1500 and then so on. I have searched all the other threads and have tried cleaning the iacv and the fast idle. Still does it, but when I unplugged the iacv, it idles slightly lower.

Here's the catch though, there are two holes in the throttle body, like if you took off your intake and looked inside, there would be 2 holes. If I plug the hole on the bottom (it leads to the fast idle, about 7 o'clock) it idles normal....... All the sensors are plugged up and there is no check engine light.

I took out the black can underneath the factory gsr manifold which I believe was for the iab or secondaries, I hope that is not the cause of this.

Also, is the charcoal canister important because I don't have the evap purge solenoid sensor and the canister, the sensor was broken during the install. And would anyone know the color(s) for the sensors such as IAT, IACV, map, tps, etc. Just wanted to make sure that they are correct.

4000 RPM means a rather big vacuum leak. I have found small leaks by using a compression tester and an air compressor. You just pressurize one of the cylinders making sure the intake valves on that cylinder are open and just listen for air. Engine off of course.

just checked it earlier today again and I believe it is the FITV, because when I plug the bottom hole in the throttle body, it idles fine. I checked with napa auto parts and autozone but they don't seem to carry this part, any ideas on where to get it from besides the dealer?

fix your FITV for free. just open it up and tighten down the "plunger"

thanks man, but I already tried that twice, its tight already, but air is still being sucked through when the car is warm, so I guess I'll have to replace the whole damn thing.

Is this a dealership part only? because no one else carries it.

also if im driving it around lets say 30mph 4th gear it will stutter back a forth.. does that maybe sound like a tps problem?

If the TPS is the problem, then you would have a CEL because of it.
What throttle body are you using?

Did you make sure you got all the old gasket off? Throttle body and Intake Manifold?

I installed a blox manifold on my GSR nad It idles just fine. I also have a Omni throttle body that doesn't use that fast idle valve thing under the stock GSR throttle body.

I don't have the blox manifold, but if you have a OBD1 GSR TB, you need to make sure the TB seals all the way along the bottom of the manifold.

make sure you get all the old gasket off. it should be your problem because you have a very big vac. leak.

Was it the FITV or was it something else that caused the problem?
