Would it be a plug or a direct replacement for the stock sunroof? In other words would you be able to remove your old metal sunroof and replace with CF and it still opens and closes? If it is a direct replacement you can count me in on one for fourth gen.

I would be in for 4th gen, if as other said, maintained the motorized function. If it was kept under a couple hundred dollers I would gaurentee my purchase. A carbon fiber sunroof replacement shouldn't be more than 200-300 dollers (with just lid) being that the labour alone in replacing it is difficult and unless was done by the owner of the car, would cost a couple hundred bucks ontop the cf moonroof. I'm sure they will be sold at around 500 or something but its just a rectangle pretty much. LOL, speaking of which, I don't know if this is same for all shops, but this body shop wanted to charge me for 8 hours for the sunroof job (pull it out, reinstall, NOT INCLUDING actual sanding/prep/spraying). What a stooge!

ill see what I can do about that. The only thing i see with that is that weight reduction is small doing that because the majority of the weight is in the track system. http://www.honda-tech.com/zerothread/1964397 There is some info there.

Mine is more for cosmetic purposes and permanent rust solution. I like too many luxuries to actually do any worthy weight reductions.

8 hours included the power motor removal as it had never worked since I bought it. Not just removing moon roof strictly for painting or replacing.I ended up doing it myself anyway being all the cost was labour pretty much and I have free time on weekends. It all did take me around +5 hours to reinstall moon roof with the motor and to get it sliding properly.

I am down. I don't see H-T'ers willing to put down $400 to save 50lbs or so. Just my opinion. 4th gen.

Does that $400 include all the mounting accessories as well, and no need for welding? If that's just for the plug, screw that. You'd be paying $400 for the plug...then doing the mounting yourself(more money), losing your sunroof, and only losing at most...50lbs. Not worth it to me.

I dont think it is 50lbs, but I could be wrong. I just pulled the entire sunroof assmb. from a 2000 prelude and carried it well over 300 yds, from one of the junk yard to the other. It was akward but not heavy. This is my solution the the rust and it is was only $60

We did a similar group buy over on PreludeUK last year, and they turned out really well.

The manufacturer is still selling them off the shelf, but it works out a bit more expensive than $400 http://www.12tune.nl/index.php...=2591

$400 these days can get you a nice CF hood guaranteed not to warp or yellow. You loose a little weight, you gain a nice looking CF hood, you cut down on under-hood temps...you lose nothing but $400 cash and some heat.If it's just the plug...you're basically paying CF hood cost for 1/4 a CF hood. With this purchase...you lose ability to use your sunroof, you lose *up to* 50lbs, and you're out $400. And I can bet there's absolutely no guarantee against water leaks either. I like using my sunroof, and I like my mint condition interior not having any water damage. Plus no carbon fiber plug is worth my hard-earned $400.

The actual performance gain of a CF hood compared to a CF sunroof plug is quite a difference. A cf hood might loose 10-15 lbs up front, while a CF plug will drop from 43-50 lbs from the top of the the car. A JDM front bumper support will drop as much as a CF hood from the front of the car and only costs $100 or so...much better than your $400 hood. This is a performance modification and if you don't want to do it then don't. It's a matter of personal preference. | Quote, originally posted by socialistic » | | And I can bet there's absolutely no guarantee against water leaks either. Haha, that's a ridiculous argument...if you do it right you will not have any leaks. The LF kit comes with detailed instructions on how to install and seal the plug. Mine has had no leaks for many years and never will.

Exactly, you can get a brand new 5th gen glass for that much. No rust, looks better, and fully functional.

Just to clarify - there *is* welding involved with the Lighter-Faster kit, and not every welding place will be willing to install those brackets. The roof metal is very thin, and it's not easy to attach those brackets correctly. If you have the skills and the equipment to install them yourself - well, I'm jealous!I installed the kit, and it looks OK - it's tricky to make the sealing silicone bead look good, as you're just spreading it like paste. Would I do it again? I don't know. On a related subject, I have the 5th gen roof glass and all the parts of the roof assembly if somebody wants em
