  GroundControl | Top Hats | Camberplate | Questions | 06' RSX« » Reply  Edit

what's up guys. I currently bought new suspension setup for my 06' RSX type S. I got the Ground Control Coilovers, along with the Koni Yellow setup. My question is, do I really need the top hat/ front camber plate for this setup. Ground Control discontinued making the top hat and front camber plate for the RSX. Now, I want to do the setup right. I orginally wanted to buy it with the setup, but can't because GC doesnt make them anymore for my car.

If I don't have it installed, will it hurt my car in anyway? Also, on my last setup.. I had issues with a heavy knocking sound when I turn my wheel, due to a poor top hat.

Also, the company I bought the new setup from said I could use my stock OEM top hat. What do you guys think?

People with this setup.. give me feed back on the setup: likes, dislikes, etc... (I know I could have done a search for this question, but I might as well throw in in here).

Thanks in advance Honda-tech! Any help and feedback would be great!

I don't even see a point of modding suspension on a McPherson strut car if you aren't going to use camber plates. Not being able to adjust the camber sort of defeats the purpose, unless you absolutely don't care about the handling and are just after the look . . .

Mac strut suspension is severely camber-challenged and needs a significant amount of static negative camber to work well.

I see. thanks for the input. Are there any other after market camber plates i can get for this specific setup. I sure hope this this setup works out for me. Im going to do more research to see how others run this setup on the same car.

Crash bolts? You could try those. Not ideal, but better than nothing.

Looks like only Hotchkis and K-Mac make separate universal camber plates for the RSX from what I can see, now that the GCs are discontinued. The only other options would be to mod something like the K-sport camber plates to somehow work with the Koni inserts, mod a camber plate from a different car, or have something custom fabricated. What a hateful selection.

oh ok cool. imma try doin the setup with out the front camber plate/ kit. and exam how it goes... if i really need one then ill look at my options from there.. i hope I can pull it off with out a camber kit/ plate. There are a few RSX's on board that are running the same set-up im going with.. so hopefully I'll have the same luck as them..

thanks again ...

i have the Hotchkis plates on my 02 civic. Simple design and it has worked great for me. The car is a daily driver and the camber has not slipped at all only problem is they squeak but i was expecting creaking noises since i lowered it.

So I installed my ground control/ koni yellow setup. Im having issues with a knocking noise in the front of my car. The noise seems to be that the GC/Koni set up is having problems working with my stock top hat. The top hat hits body when i go over bumps etc... The sound is real annoying. Has anyone had this problem? If so, Pls assist. Im trying to look for an after market top hat, but no luck! GC discontinued the top hats/ camber plates for my car. So I cant find one that will work with my set up.

Thank in Advance.!

Um, the top hat should be solidly mounted to the body.

Now, if the strut body is hitting the top hat (completely compressing the shock shaft), then you're radically undersprung for your ride height and possibly forgot to install the bumpstops.

(Or I'm completely off base here. I haven't exactly looked at strut based Honda suspensions much.)

ok here are some pics i took of my current situation. I may have found the problem, let me know what you guys think.

Pic 1: (full setup pic):

Pic 2: (What I think the problem might be.)
** I'm not sure if i need that black metal piece, as it moves around loosely. That piece came from my stock setup. I'm thinking I may need to remove that, since it really serves no purpose, or so I think.

Pic 3: (By removing the black piece, the gold ring should sit firmly with in the silver one right? thus, not needing that black piece?)

Pic 4: (the very top part of the setup.)

So im thinking i dont need that black metal piece, and that might be whats causing the sounds.? Let me know what you guys think. Do i need any rubber pieces or am i missing anything?

Thanks for everyone's input as well! Its helping me narrow down a solution for my problem.
