| Quote, originally posted by ejLday » | | Hey guys I need to know a good budget setup for under $600 for some good struts. My current setup is stock in the front, and kyb gr-2's in the rear. I am running skunk2 coilovers. Some struts I would like some feed back on include, Tokico Blue's, Kyb Gr-2's, Tokico D-Spec and any others that you have had success with. The key factor I need your help with is whether or not these struts I mentioned can handle a low drop, such as one with my coilovers. Thanks Modified by ejLday at 1:56 AM 4/15/2008

What year Civic? The Tokico HP (blue) and KYB GR-2's shouldn't be considered "performance" shocks, they are better suited as OEM replacements. They aren't really valved to be abloe to handle less travel on different springs.. A lot of people have had them blow out on only a 1 or 2 inch drop. D-Spec's are your best bet, they offer adjustable damping to compensate and handle the shorter spring with a higher rate.

oops forgot to mention, I drive an 02 civic ex coupe. Yea that's what I figured, I am currenty dropped like 3 inches so it sounds like D-Spec's are the answer. Any thoughts on Kyb agx? Tokico vs. Kyb? I want something that will last, despite a low drop.thanks

Last time I checked, AGX weren't available for our cars. I had them on my 94 Accord and they were okay. Not as fine-tunable as DSPEC, because the AGX you are adjustable by a series of "clicks". The DSPEC used a continuous dial to adjust, no clicks, so you can "fine tune" it. DSPEC and KONI Sport are your 2 best options, besides going full coilovers.

or... if you want a budget setup. Why not go with some KYB/AGX's? with some springs? or just keep the Skunk coilover sleeves and put them on the AGX's. Since they are 4 way adjustable. That is pretty much going suit your $$$ that you have/want to spend.

scratch that guess I was wrong, they do make AGX for our cars now.So it basically comes down to 2 things: Whether you want to "click in" your suspension with a fixed number.. Or "dial" it in without pre-set increments; for fine tune. Also, which company is more reputable? Also, where can you get the best price.

well I know Kyb offers "lifetime warranty" on their struts but when you buy off the internet returning things insnt fun. If raising my car altogether would open the door to less expensive struts thats fine too. A 2 1/2" drop would pull a premium.

Tokico HP and KYB GR2 are going to blow if you lower it 2".DSPECs. KYB AGX and KONI race shocks are your only option, unless you don't want a drop at all. How much are you looking to spend? Beating a dead horse? Here it is in a nutshell. $480 shipped for DSpecs $500+ shipped $500+ shipped for Koni (then you have to hack up your oem housings)\ $0 for blown oem shocks.

Well since you didnt read my initial post, I am looking to spend less than $600 on struts alone. Just out of curiosity where are you getting 480 shipped? the cheapest I found them for was 5 somthing on ebay....and "beating a dead horse" does not apply here. I will look into D-Spec's, the koni's arent worth it for em2's, and I havent heard enough on full coilovers to know what brand is worth the $.

As long as the HP's and the sleeves are for 01-02's, then yes.

ok so I am getting tokico D-spec's for my 02 civic ex, and I went to ground control's website to see if their sleeves would fit. There are 2 different tokico applications listed: Tokico Premium Performance, and Tokico Illumina. Can anyone tell me which one I need?here is the link http://www.ground-control-stor...CA=55
