Just a note for anyone looking to relocate the battery and wanting oem reliability, the OEM Miata battery works great and is a little shorter and a little wider than a civic battery. Sometimes it works out better than a civic battery.

what are the cca on the miata battery? I am considering moving my battery from the rear to back under the hood. I think you lose so much current thru the long runs of wire.

Your power wire wont effect your cranking amps unless it is too small.
I personally like the battery in the front wheel well as apposed to the trunk. Now this is probably because im more into racing than sterio systems and the front would provide more weight over the front wheels for better traction.

Another thing to do is get as much weight as possible to the passenger side to offset for your body weight.

I like to put the battery behind the right headlight. Makes it easy to get to if you need to charge it or remove if. Doesn't work with abs though.

Does anyone make a kit or the brackets to mount behind the bumper like the ones posted above?

Just get the battery you want to run and some angle iron and find someone to fab it up for you.

I've put my battery behind the passenger seat as well but I might try putting it back to the front if I can find some room.
