Facts:-the tranny is a 1991 SI
-the electronic VSS i dont know what car it is out of
-the cable VSS is from a 1988-1991 civic/crx
-i have a 1997 Integra GSR cluster
-the electronic vss gear sticks out a slight bit more
- the two gear/shafts are different lengths and therefore are not interchangable
Story:
i tried to convert to electronic, and a friend gave me a spare vss, he didnt know where it came from, so i installed it. i have never been able to get it to work (although the problem was likely wiring)
so i grabbed a cable vss to compare, and when i took the electronic vss out of my tranny it was all chewed up on the tip.
the electronic vss seems to be slightly longer due to a gear spacer behind it rather than in front like the cable vss.
another fault of my is the electronic vss was not properly installed, i dont think i had it in far enough. as a result i may have tightened it slightly cock-eyed and could have caused it to grind on something, hence the mashed gear.
the questions:
will this electronic vss still work?
do i need a new gear?
can i replace the gear?
where can i get a replacement?
how do i install the new replacement?
what is the electronic vss out of?
