b2b is good, yeah.. i've been thinking about just doing a gsr transmission, pulleys, and some other little stuff. But i like a bigger torquier motor.. something i can put a massive intake, header, and exhaust on without worrying about losing torque ^_^.turbo's cool but i hate the lag. supercharging is sweet but pretty friggin' expensive. h22 is pretty sweet but i really don't want my hood being lifted up as a dead giveaway to thieves. f22 seems like a good option as it's cheap.. good gas mileage.. lotsa torque. just an idea.

having a b2b is a little easier to afford, and install. the weight differences are around 18-20 lbs. as stated in the civic forum. cost wise, its not a bad choice. never really heard too much about them though.

just seems like a lot of hassle to swap a f22 when you can turbo your b series and get reliable, useable power for a very decent price. also, turbo lag depends completely on your setup. if you don't like lag, get a t25 or some smaller ball bearing turbocharger. linear power band can be had with a turbo, just need to do your homework.

I've really strongly considered turbo, but i have a '95 and the motor i would describe as 'past middle age'. So i'd have to factor in the price of either getting a new block or rebuilding the one i have at some point ( probably promptly after 6 months of turbo charging )..see my dillema.. still curious about f22 hood clearance.

i'm assuming any f series you buy isn't gonna be new as well. new forged pistons and a decent rebuild would only make your car that more boost ready. just seems like you want a f22 because its not the norm. do what you want tho.

and my question to you is how the crap do you get proper hood clearance... and you have a da.. :/ I see photos of dudes cutting out their hood on those. Does anyone make a h22/f22 swap hood?

the only issues i have seen are ground clearance, where to get a header, and alternator pulley clearance. i have an h2b del sol, and i have no hood clearance issues at all. the engine leans back pretty far so the oil pan is pretty close to the ground, but up top i have no problems.

I am thinking of doing a F2B setup.. particularly the vtec F22 out of the 94-97 accord. I like the cost of the motor, the fact that it doesn't require premium gas, and the low compression. I was wondering if there are any advantages to putting this motor in the bay over an H22. Particularly: 1. Is it a bit less tall because of the SOHC head? 2. Lighter than the H22? 3. Worth it? |
if you're going to all the trouble of the swap you might as well spend a little more money for the h22. it is after all about 55 hp more, which should be well worth the money.

yeah, but like i said.. fuel economy on the f22 is nice. and if it doesn't make my hood extrude like the f22, that's good, veedee good. And i like horsepower, but i'm looking for added torque.. f22 is all about down low.. h22 is all about making max power up top.. i prefer low end response, besides, i hear h22 motors get beat up bad.. something about rod bearings.

The F22 is a joke of a motor.(performance wise) . Its only good for boostin'. Ohter wise dont waste your time with it,unless you want to pour $1000's into it. cb7tuner.com is the only place that I know of where they get heavily into building up F series accord motors and the numbers arent impressive. 8.8 CR,125-40hp and 145 ft lbs of tq to the flywheel is not gonna be fun..

yeah but i was thinking about the vtec F22..145 hp (108 kW) @ 5500 rpm 147 ft·lbf (199 N m) @ 4500 rpm vs 142 hp (106 kW) @ 7000 rpm 127 ft·lbf (172 N·m) @ 5200 rpm So, 2 more hp at 1500 rpm earlier.. and 20 more ft/lbs 700rpm earlier.
Sounds like an upgrade to me. I would do it just for pedal response and gas mileage alone. I mean, hey.. a little more mpg more highway and more low end torque.. that's rad on a daily driver. If i was going for sheer power, hell yeah, i'd get a H22, or turbo the B. Still concerned about the height of the motor VS the H22 because the hood clearance issue on an integra really bugs me. Going to start hunting in these forums for people with F22 swaps..

yeah? is this because the ac 'piping' is the same as integra.. or the block itself has smaller dimensions.. or what?

my friend has a 96 accord ex. that car has no more torque than a b18b1. The engine isnt as raw and i can feel it lugging at lower rpms. I say stick with b series and mate it with a itr or ctr tranny to keep it torquey
