JDM SRS Momo steering wheel - will it deploy in an accident« » Reply  Edit

I have a 2000 Hatch and I installed a JDM Civic SRS mom steering wheel - the thing looks great.

My little brother now has my hatch and I'd like to know if he were to get in an accident will that airbag deploy.

The unit bolted up and the yellow plug fit in just fine - it was a simple plug and play.

Are the JDM SRS units different than the USDM ones? And does swapping steering wheels affect the reliability of it working?

If the SRS light isn't on indicating a problem then i think the airbag would deploy in the event of an accident.

I could be wrong here, but since the SRS light comes on to indicate a problem with the SRS system if it stays off after the Momo SRS wheel install I think that means the system is fine and should deploy.

i had a 97 civic lx sedan(bought from mother) and the srs light was on and it never had been in an accident never had airbags deployed and getting it inspected and everything they didnt say anything about it, then i got rid of it and got a 96 ex coupe and the srs light is on and got it inspected (different place) and they also never said anything about it.. both cars never being in an accident and both never having airbags deployed.

i know this may sound rude... but that has absolutely nothing to do with this topic. haha. he never mentioned anythign about the srs light being on and if it will work. He wants to know if the airbag will deploy.

OP: it should work. I would not worry about it. Since you said it plugged right in, it will act as a normal steering wheel and the airbag will deploy if in an accident where the airbag is triggered to deploy.

Now, if he gets in an accident and the airbag doesnt deploy, i am not responsible! haha take care. i hope that helps.

Anyone correct me if I am wrong, but I do not believe I am wrong.

If you have no SRS light, you are fine.
