Snowseeker's CRX project repaint, b series, the whole deal! I'm sure some humor too« » Reply  Edit

Some of you might remember my 4 barrel carburetor B20Vtec thread that was quite the adventure.

Anyhow, I just picked up this nice little HF about a month ago that was an original florida car so it is almost completely rust free! So since I want a nice car to drive this summer I figured I better get going on it. I am going to do a complete repaint, b series, suspension, the whole deal. However I want to keep it stock looking to a point besides wheels, lowered and the obvious b under the hood. It is a HF which is a huge plus to me! I love the head room and the rarity is pretty neat oh yah and its light! AAAAAND it is a 88!!! That just makes me

Sorry I am not one of those people that likes to stop every 2 minutes and take a pic. I will be sure to have a pic after every day that I work on the car though.

Here are the pics from the add, sorry I didn't take before pics really.

And we skip ahead to the now. lol
I stripped the engine bay down over the last two days. Stripped the paint tonight and got it in primer.

These traction bars will be for sale when I install the new ones.

That is the motor that will be going in this CRX.

Thats all you get for now. Hopefully I will have time to get the base paint tomorrow and get the engine bay sprayed.

Well I built the motor, intake, header, ect a few years back before the s300 days. I went the carb route because of cost and ease of tunning. I only needed to carry a screw driver around with me to tune the car. I did have the car on the dyno this last summer and it pulled a 13.1 A/F ratio across the board. The header is all rusty because I built it out of the cheapest crap I could find lol. Reason being is that I was going to build a few different styles of headers and try them out on the dyno. Than I was going to take the best design and build it out of stainless. Well as you can see I have been busy and didn't get that far.

lol Well after [freak]in around with a junk edelbrock carb for awhile that didn't get my anywhere I got my hands on the current 500 holley double pump off of a yates nascar chassis. I went threw and totally rebuilt the carb and installed peercies jet eliminators on both sides. On a side note it is very very interesting what the guys at yates do to get more air into those motors. So after I got the holley on and got the pump cams all dialed in and the jet eliminators dialed in that was ran and drove just like it did on fuel injection.

To this day this was the only manifold type carburated B series Vtec that I know of. I have seen pics of D series with small holleys and webbers but thats it. While building the motor and carb setup I have heard it all from it will not run at all to you will never ever be able to tune it. lol

Its either that motor or the JRSCed B16 sitting under the shelf. I need to get rid of a few cars so I decided to use the B20 so I can part out and scrap the race chassis.

Here is the dyno vid. It was a dyno day so there are a few buddys cars in here. I am the third car in the vid obviously. The pulls in the vid are the first initial pulls on the car before a little tuning went down.

Had time to run to the paint store today and pick up the base and shoot the engine bay. The color is standard black, no mixs, no flakes, just black. There are some dust specs, it is to cold outside to use the draft system I have setup for the shop. Next will be the interior and inside of the doors.

I am curious how other people prep interiors of shells for paint? So many channels, bumps, brackets is there an easier way besides scuffing by hand?

I stripped the rest of the car down from its parts and pieces tonight. I also taped off the windows and a couple small things I didn't want to remove. Sorry no pics tonight, I figured everyone knows what a naked crx looks like. I did find something diturbing to me. Nice perfect rust free doors and the drivers side door has a rusted out clip mount. The farthest back outside lower window trim clip has nothing to clip into. Metal fabrication will be in order to fix the problem. Stupidest thing ever! No rust anywhere but this one spot and its rotted out...

Didn't come with the car. I was also kind of excited to get it but no soup for me.

No work tonight, I am running down to chi town to pick up a car with a buddy.

next on the list is interior paint, door and hatch prep and paint. Than finally tape off the jams and hatch hole and start preping the car for paint!

I'm still mad about the rust in the door.

Works on my updated windows media player, don't know what to tell you.

Going to run a get some heater fuel tomorrow, scuff up the interior and shoot it. I may be in need of some door seals and window seals. Some of the seals were in bad shape and one was ripped in half. I may be able to get the good seals off my 89 drag car yet but I am uncertain how those are as well. Those little plastic T clips for the door seals piss me off!

Oh and I am still sick about the rust on the door.

Scuffed cleaned and shot the interior tonight. There are more than a few spots that reacted but it'll be covered up so I don't mind. The spare tire well is nice and thats the only real interior metal visible so it will be ok.

I finished the metal fab work on the drivers door and got rid of all the rot. It came out real nice and none of the work will be visible once the window trim is on. I DAed the doors down to factory primer/base. There were a few dings I pulled out and and DAed over. There was enough paint on all of them to take up the imperfections from just sanding. Doors are ready to get shot, now I just have to get the hatch and the car ready. There was a dent on the drivers side rear wheel lip by the gas door. I was able to get in behind it and bring it back out pretty good but it will need a little filler

I have to go to upper mich. tomorrow so I won't have time to do anything. I should have time to do more saturday. Plans are to get the jams and hatch hole taped up. Get the car, doors, and hatch DAed and in primer. Than the next day should be sand, clean and shoot everything base clear. The hood I always save for very last and do with the car outside so I have room to work on the hood.

Sorry no pics tonight again, I said I wasn't much of a camera man. I'll get some pics of everything when I take the next pics.

I might if the event(s)? are on a day that I can get away. We have a couple auto-x events close to me on oval tracks and their infields that attend every year. Some of my friends are trying to get me to come out to a blackhawk or Road america lapping day with them.

Damn it! No work today like I planned. Couple of my inlaws are coming to stay with us for a few days and I have to go pick them up and entertain them tonight. That and I have a customer coming over tonight with a evo for some new stainless exhaust.

So Hopefully monday I will be able to start work on the crx again. A plus is I checked over the door seals on the donor car and they are all good so I shouldn't need seals anymore!

I hate sanding...
