85 Mugen CRX Si, WIP New pics 3/21/08« » Reply  Edit

Got some pics from the bodyshop today.
Most of the proceeds from my big parts sale are bring directed at this, so if you want to see the finished product BUY BUY BUY!!!

This is with about 14 hours of body work done. this kit is NOT for amateur bodymen. I talked to the main guy at the shop this afternoon and he said while the kit is very well made the pieces are quite rough and required MUCH shaping/trimmind/tweaking to get them to fit properly.

My car is an 85si with 126K original miles on it. the rear wing is removed, as is the wiper assembly and rear squirter. I have a CF mugen spoiler replica that will also be mounted.
Anyways, without further ado, the progress pics!!!

I got it from Houseman autosport, and its $1750 for a 9 piece kit (does not include rear spoiler), that is unshipped.

No new pics, but I did talk to the guy who is doign the work. The said all of the panels, except the rear flares, are final fitted, filled, sanded, and primed. They are still molding in the rear flares, but that will probably be done soon. After that he has to shave the wiper & squirter holes, and repair any dings in the original sheetmetal. Then its on to PAINT!

Are you doing baltic blue on the side molding where it's got that red stripe? Because that would just be more than bitchin! Love the build, Keep posted!

ITs going to have a black molding stripe. drivetrain is stock for the time being with just an intake and exhaust. Future plans are to put a mildly built b18c5 (ITR) in it.

One of the coolest features of a "real" Mugen was that the exposed gas cap has a locked that is opened by the door/ignition key. Getting one of those ought to be interesting....

Nice project. But rather than going B series, don't you think it deserves a D series?

I want around 200hp. Building a D-series that would put out that much HP and still be reliable isnt realistic. ITR swap, bolt ons and some mild cams will make more power than I probably could with a streetable D series.

You can still get lockable gascaps, I was hoping I could take one of htose to a locksmith and have them moake it work w/ my ign. key.

Scott

don't you "deserve" to drop this argument to those of us who know these cars and leave that question for those of us who've just picked one up and don't know how to modify these cars correctly? i would still love to see a streetable non-turboed d series keep up with a mildly built ITR swap.. i'd really love to see that happen.

i'm going B series for a reason; reliable power. i can rev it to 8 grand every day, and not worry about it at all. and get useable power with the increase in torque, and still have a very good track car cause the weight really isn't THAT much anyways.

B-series 1.8L I think. You might not have to move it for a B20 either, but im pretty sure you have to modify it somehow.
