I've been fixing little things on the new daily over the past two weeks and thought I'd try something new with the carpet. Car is a 99 EK hatch.
Sorry for the crap pics, it was dark and I was tired Take 4 cans of this in gloss black ![]() Take out old carpet the correct way (Seats out, console out, SRS cover off, cup holders out, lower dash brace out, rear bench out). I painted it in the same fashion I paint everything else (cept I just vacuumed for prep ). Just spray on light coats and allow to dry 8-15 minutes between each coat. Stock ![]() ![]() Dyed ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Installed: ![]() ![]() ![]() The carpet will take on a coarse texture, much like (but not as bad as) a Scotch pad. Unless you roll barefoot, who cares Overall I am very happy at it costing me < $30. I never realized how much carpet makes a difference in a car  I'm still looking for a Honda OEM dr side floormat if ya got it! Obviously color doesn't matter

im just wondering about the quality of that coloring. will it bleed or fade? or stain clothes and sneakers? i dunno, seems to me that if you go through the hassle of removing the whole carpet, you might as well just install a new one.
good oportunity for a CTR red one. but then again, you can always get them in any color from JC Whitney in oem molds. overall i guess its a good solution if youre on a budget and have a lotta time on your hands. bump for you man.

I think the only thing that is appealing, is just how clean it makes it look.
that shit looks brand new, and your right, I never realized how much of a difference that could make. I cant imagine re-doing it in that stock grey color, I wouldnt even bother. I read in another thread about a actual "dye" in a liquid form, they mentioned getting a big trash can and filling it with the dye and part water, and leaving sit for awhile, I would bet that, that would be less prone to wear off and what not

i did this a few months back and was equally excited with my initial results. i even added 2 coats of scotch guard to make sure that my hours of labor were worth it. THEY WEREN'T. as soon as someones wet shoes hit that "dye" as you call it, the "spray paint" wears right off and you'll be left with giant grey splotches. not trying to be a downer...but on the plus side you can use a carpet shampooer to remove the spray paint from your carpet. booo painting your carpet. when the weather gets warmer here i'll be dyeing mine with rit dye in a giant drum. i'll post up on my results. until then, brrrrr it's freaking cold outside.

i did this about 2 years ago to my civic. the first time it faded pretty quick but it was because i was lazy and did not prep at all. the second time around i shampooed the carpet, let it dry completely, and used adhesion promoter. as the OP said, it will be course to the touch at first, but does wear in. it will fade in high traffic spots (driver and passenger floormats) but other than that it stuck n problem at all. its been about a year and a half since i last dyed my carpet and i have redone the floormats once.
good writeup btw.

I don't get why someone would want to dye a civic carpet.

thanks a lot man, good stuff. I like that. Post up again after you get in it with some wet shoes or something, let us know how it holds up, if it's good i'm gonna do the same. do you think this would work with any color, like say grey instead of gloss black?
