Default 94+ Integra Cluster into 91 CRX......searched.

All of the info that I have managed to read on the topic states one thing pretty consistently and that is :

"Cut the plugs off the CRX side of the wiring harness and solder."

Is there a way around this?

Thought #1 -

- Re-use the plug on the Integra side of the cluster but solder extensions / pins onto the ends of the wires that plug into the CRX side of the harness.

Thought #2 -

- De-pin both the CRX side of the harness and the Integra side and put
the CRX wires into the Integra plug.

Will they fit?

Are either of these ideas feasible? I ask because I would like to be able to switch back to the stock cluster if I feel like it and not have it be as much of a nightmare to do so and deal with lots of soldering / de-soldering and short wires etc...

i did my swap by de-pinning my sedan plug and soldering the wires onto those. this way i could desolder them and re pin them.

i did my buddies EJ and came up with a better way. i used my automatic wire stripper about 3 inches from the stock plug, and soldered the teggy wires onto that.

i wish i would have thought of that a long time ago, looks way better and he just taped up his stock plug

Buy a dash harness that you re willing to cut up and put it in along side you're stock dash harness. So you'll have two dash harnesses in at all times and you can easily switch back and forth. Its also way easier (and cleaner) to make the harness when its out of the car. Just my .o2

Now that is a good idea!

So make it look like this:

I think that I might go this route. This would be easy enough to cut the Teggy harness out if I ever decided to sell it as well.

That would work too. But I was referring to running two totally separate harnesses. Your idea is probably better

I'm hoping to see this work before I try it,I'm not too ballsy when it comes to innovative soldering.

92-95 Civic VSS

just strip the insulation back and tap into the corresponding wires. This will allow you to have both integra and crx harnesses in that location. This enables you to swap clusters easily when needed.

I did this without soldering any connections (4 yrs and going strong)....

1. just strip the insulation back and use a pick to seperate the copper strands, making a hole in the exposed wire. (----<>----)

2. then insert the stripped length of the integra wire through the hole you created, and wrap the wire around the other one.

3. tape up/heatshrink the exposed wire, and secure with a tie-strap.

Wouldn't you have a better chance of it lasting by using solders?

You need a Teg schem for it don't you? Or do the colors correspond correctly?

is there a difference in GSR cluster's by year? Or are all OBD1 OBD2 GSR clusters the same?

I decided to de-pin the CRX side of the harness and connect the Integra wires to the pins so that in the future if need be I can just re-install the pins into the CRX clips and throw the stock cluster back in there.

I've got most of it done but I am now at a standstill.

Working Lights -

- Turn signals (right and left)
- Hazards
- High Beam
- Seatbelt Light
- Battery Light
- CEL
- Oil Light
- Hatch Light
- E-Brake Light

Working Gauges -
- Tach
- Fuel
- Temp

I have not yet hooked up the speedometer.

Now the problem. The Cluster lights behind the speedo, tach, fuel gauge and the temp gauge are non functional. Because the above light and gauges all work I don't think that it is a ground issue.

I have checked -
- Ground
- Checked fuses and they are fine
- Looked for burnt contacts on the cluster and found none
- Have all of the hazard, dimmer, and defrost switches plugged in

Any help is much appreciated.

headlight switch(red/blk)-------instrument cluster-------(red)dimmer switch

what are you going to do for a speedo? i wired in a 92-95 for D-series cable tranny

I've tried hooking up the red w/ black stripe Integra wire to both the red and the red/black of the CRX side with no results.

Just to make sure they were getting juice I hooked up the e-brake light and that worked no prob so I know it is at least getting juice.

Still no main illumination.

I disconnected the ground that I had and tried a place on the dash mounting frame but that didn't work either.

Triple checked the fuses but they are all fine.

Can't figure out what I am missing.

I just used "quick connects" I picked up from Napa, this way If I don't want my Ek Si cluster in anymore all I have to do is reconnect my CRX plugs by installing some more connectors on them, plug-n-play! It also made it easy to trouble shoot if any problems arose during the swap.

So you had no issues with getting the main illumination to work?

For the life of me I can't figure it out.

Tried grounding to the frame, tried switching the power wires around.

Hmm....

No more working on it tonight.

Going to first check all the bulbs tomorrow.

http://media.honda.co.uk/car/o...8.pdf

Then check ground "g401" and hope one of those is the culprit.

make sure you are pining it to the correct pin on the integra side, by cicuit tracing the printed cicuit on the back of the cluster.

I installed a 99 Si cluster in my std. I heat shrinked every connection. I'll see if I can get some pictures of the wiring.

Both of these same methods work almost with the same Idea. I have done this method with out cuting the civic plug, just added these wire tap in and quick disconnects.

Tried it again this morning and Voila! the light now work.

I didn't do anything other than go out to the garage and try hooking up the same wires again and it worked this time.

Even the dimmer works.
