air conditioning problem or not????« » Reply  Edit

hi all, have a 07 civic lx with 3500 miles. every time i stop at a stoplight the air conditioning stops blowing COLD air, the air blows bit it is not cold, this also happens on acceleration. Can anyone shed some light on this? I sthis normal as the dealer states? They said the ac checked out fine when I brought it in...but golly, I've NEVER had a car ac act like this. Would apprerciate your feedback.
PS I live in florida and it's obviously hot...they said...drive with recirc all the time, and that when the car is not moving it's taking in hotter air...sounds like bs to me.
I have a raytec temp gun and the temp changes at least 10 degrees when stopped out of the vent...
thanks....

Not sure if it matters, but your user guide tells you not to drive in recirc any longer than avoiding dust from passing by a construction site and such. It says try to always put it in fresh air mod getting new air from the outside. When you are in recirc, you don't get new air from outside. I don't know why dealer said what they said.

You got a m/t ? maybe if you put it in neutral while at a stop light, the AC doesnt get any power til you put it in gear. I'm not sure, just guessing here.

I am in SC and I know what you mean. The AC cools better when air is moving across the condensor, that is why it works better moving. Under hard acceleration most vehicle AC compressors kick off to offer the most power for accel. I also use my recirc all the time and it does make a diff for me.

it almost sounds like you need to put in some more refrigerant in your a/c system.the car is an 07 though so you shouldnt have to put any in,its a new car.there might be a leak in the system,in that case it should be covered by warranty.like i said though its a new car it shouldnt be leaking or anything but you never know.

I have the same problem and my dealership also told me to put it in recirculation mode. It seems to have helped a little. The explanation was, "its easier to keep cold air cold than it is to make hot air cold." I also have a spurattic problem with a grinding noise when I turn the a/c on, or when I start the car and the a/c kicks on from being left on. Anyone else notice this?

This happens to me in my 2007 Si also. I find that if i put the car in neutral at stop and rev the motor up to 2000 RPM's the compressor is moving at a faster rate and the ac does blow a little colder. I only have to do this right when I get into my car when I get off of work.

Using recirculated air (MAX AC) will blow colder once the cabin has cooled off than using outside air. The Blower will also blow at a higher CFM. When your ac uses outside air during operation, the ac has to remove additional humidity and can't reduce the temperature as much versus the colder air already inside your vehicle.

During initial start up of the vehicle use the fresh air setting until ac has a chance to cool off the cabin before switching to recirculated air (max ac). Chances are the outside air is going to be cooler than the air inside the car until the ac has a chance to cool the cabin.

The function of an ac system is to remove humidity from the air and lower air temperatures

I have the exact same problem guys. I also get that crazy grinding sound when I start the car and the ac was on. Not every time, but often enough to bother me!

What are the air discharge temps at the vents?

New hvac systems don't seem to produce as cold of air as older models

Not everyone in the country enjoys the nice weather of california. Its tripple digit weather in arizona, and 80%+ humidity in florida.

The ac works better for me if you first put it in normal mode (non recirculation) untill it cools down a bit in your car. Then switch to recirculation. This way ur keeping the cool air in and its easier for your compressor to keep the cold air cold.

Also my car is 6 months old and still smell brand spanking new since i dont have the outside air coming in.

Greetings All! I have a 2007 EX Coupe. Last year I took it in to the dealer for the same AC problems. While driving home one day, it quit blowing cold air, then later the compressor quit working so I took it in. There was a recall on these cars and they "fixed" it. That was last fall. I started on a trip a few weeks ago, really needed AC and of course, it didnt work. Compressor didnt come on yet again. I drove two days across OK, TX and NM with no AC! I took it back to a dealer in NM and the compressor is being replaced under warranty today. This is suppose to "fix" the problem for good, so they say! Take your cars back to the dealer and have them check the compressor itself for leaks, the housing on my compressor was leaking and the computer would shut down the system from an error code. Enough said! Have a great day!
