____ NRG Short Hub - Quick Release - Nardi steering wheel installation pics« » Reply  Edit

I've had tons of questions on how to install the nrg quick release and also make the horn work. Worry no more. We did a full write up for you!

Here's how to install.

This procedure is done in my 92-95 Civic. Vehicle application may vary, but it is the same procedure to install the system in most Hondas.

1. Remove Factory Steering Wheel First you would need to remove your factory steering wheel (and SRS if applies) to expose the steering spline of your steering column. There is a 19mm nut to release the factory steering wheel. Hold onto it as you'll need it to secure the hub adaptor.

2. Horn wiring If you have a 92+ setup with a SRS system, you'll need to take extra procedures to make the horn work. You'll need to locate the SRS harness that detached from the ribbon wire to the steering wheel. (If you do not want to wire up the horn, skip to step 3)

To wire up the horn, you'll need wire about 2 feet long and a metal contact. (You can use the 88-91 Civic/CRX horn contact) or go DIY and use a metal clip from a pen. I used the metal clip from a pen because of it's flexibility. Attach the metal contact to one end of the wire.

Locate the female end of the SRS harness that was detached.

You'll need to locate the horn wire. For EG's, the horn tap is the far left pin as pictured. You want to pin the other side of the wire to the horn tap on the SRS harness.

Run the wire through the steering column and attach the metal contact side anywhere near the spline with the contact facing the driver.

3. Installing the Short Hub adaptor Take the short hub and line up the splines of the hub to the splines of the steering column. Be sure that your steering wheel is straight as well as the car or your steering wheel will be crooked!! The dot on the hub adaptor represents TOP

Once the steering hub is on, secure it in place with the 19mm nut that held the factory steering wheel in place.

4. Installing the Quick Release Before attacthing the quick release, wire up the ground and power wires to the appropriate wires on the base of the quick release. (if you are not wiring horn, skip this step) Once done, line up the base with the dot representing TOP.

With the steering wheel side of the quick release, wire up the ground and power wires to the appropriate horn button contacts on the Steering wheel horn button. Secure the quick release to the steering wheel. Remember, the dot is TOP. Line your steering wheel accordingly.

Once the horn button is secure in place along with the steering wheel, you are now ready to attach the steering wheel to the base of your quick release.

5. Mounting the quick release lock If you bought the quick release lock, you can secure your quick release base by attaching the lock to the base. Unlock the lock with the included keys. Slide the lock to "open" position. Slide lock onto base, match up Top with the dot.

Slide the lock to "lock" position. Push key lock to secure into place. Your quick release is now secure.

Congrats! Now you are done with your installation. Enjoy the extra layer of security by removing your steering wheel!
Hope this helps out ! If you have any questions or need further help, feel free to PM me.

good write up! so does this quick release make it the same distance on the steering column as the stock wheel? because it is a "short" because all the quick releases ive experienced make the wheel come out further than stock

yeah it will be the same distance if you get the short hub. but if you get the momo hub and the quick release it will stick out more. heres a comparison. cant wait to install mine
