  [FAQ] How To Install An Integra Type-R Cluster Into Your Non-ITR Integra (GSR, LS, etc...)« » Reply  Edit

Finally, someone making a thread with pictures on how to swap an ITR cluster into your non-ITR Integra. For some who bought an incompatible cluster (fuel gauge doesn't work, etc.), this is a solution for you. If for some reason if doesn't work after this tutorial, then you might have done something wrong, or your cluster is broken. This tutorial is to help you put in a 98, 99 (in Canada), 00, or 01 ITR cluster into your 94-97 Integra, or 97 ITR cluster into your 98-01 Integra. This also applies to putting in a 96 Spec JDM ITR cluster into your 98-01 Integra, or a 98 Spec JDM ITR cluster into your 94-97 Integra. This guide will work too if swapping in newer (98-01) Integra gauges into an older (94-97) Integra, or vice versa.

I am showing you how to do the swapping the gauges method, not the green film swapping method. The reason behind this is being able to retain the SRS light, and to avoid your ABS light from going off. The 94-97 and 98-01 cluster housings are slightly different, and you will not be able to place the SRS module from a 98-01 cluster into a 96 Spec JDM ITR cluster (different shapes). That way if you are just swapping over the gauges, you retain your own SRS module (thus light). By just swapping the green films, you will lose your SRS light if installing a 96 Spec JDM ITR cluster into your 98-01 Integra.

Our victims for this how-to... A 96 Spec JDM ITR cluster, and since I don't have a GSR or LS cluster lying around, a 2000 CDM ITR cluster (a substitute).

Tools that you will need...

Procedure

1. Take your Phillip screwdriver and remove the screws from the rear of the cluster, on both clusters.

2. Remember which screws were removed from the particular gauge.

3. Now you need to take off the gauge bezel to swap the dummy light plates (skip the latter steps if the ITR cluster is from 98-01 and your car is 98-01; 97 ITR cluster and your car is 94-97). However, if you are installing a JDM ITR cluster, you should do the latter steps anyways because the JDM ITR cluster lacks certain dummy lights. Remove the three screws circled. After the bezels are removed, take the ITR gauges (fuel, speedometer, tachometer, and temperature) and swap them into your old cluster housing. This is possible because you removed the screws from each gauge, remember?

4. A picture comparing the differences between the years. The two most right and the bottom left (if you want to retain Maintenance Required, Cruise Control, and/or Immobilizer lights; ie, JDM ITR clusters don't have these lights) need to be swapped. The top center is optional if you want to get rid of 'BRAKE' (applies to USDM models only if swapping out for another market's cluster).

5. Using a small flathead screwdriver, carefully pry the plates from the studs on both clusters. The studs will break if you are not careful. Swap your car's dummy light plates onto the ITR CF bezel.

6. Reassemble everything.

7. Place cluster into your car and make sure everything works.

That is why you need to switch them. 94-97 clusters and 98-01 clusters have them at different spots. Say you are using a 00 cluster, everything is essentially the same except you are putting in the ITR gauges and bezel. But the bezel (if 96 Spec JDM) has the icons in different spots, and you will need the icons in the same spot as the 00 cluster. Which is why you put 00 plates on an older bezel.

good write up, but what if you have a 95 teg (like i do) and dont have another cluster to swap out the bezels? my prob lies in the gas guage in my ukdm cluster. does any1 know how i could fix my gas guage? everything else seems to work fine. i previously had a jdm cluster in it. thanks

I would assume so, unless it's limited by the final drive. My USDM GS-R has been to around 230 kph.

You'll need to repin your cluster harness. Check my signature. However, your ABS light will remain constant.

ABS = antilock brakes

Your seatbelt light will be wrong too.
