This is why I voted no. Political topics stray by the simple fact that there's connections between nearly everything. By making that rule we're inviting arguments over what's on topic and what's not and leaving it up to an indivudual to decide if one persons thoughts on something have a connection to the thread or not. The only thing a rule like this does is stifle thought and conversation.

To enforce this you'd have to ban about half a dozen users, who despite their never ending idiocy and ignorance, stir the pot up quite a bit.

Quick question: If someone posts something that is outrageously stupid and I call them on it, is that considered 1) a personal attack, 2) & 3) trying to keep the discussion intelligent and on topic, or 4) me enjoying myself? Also, WHO decides which one of the above it is? Just wondering.

Examples of personal attacks: "You're an idiot", "You are stupid", "You arsehole" Etc. There will be a moderator for this forum soon.

The moderator will take this into account. They will be warned and the member continues, they will be penalized.

I do think it would be a good idea to have a moderator who would be clearly devoted to building the forum, and devoted to maintaining a fair and balanced atmosphere.

The problem with that is that we run the risk of neutering the forum when we aim for 'fair and balanced.' The fact is, that won't happen until we have a forum full of professionals that know what they're talking about (John for example, or perhaps yourself) and are willing to say "perhaps I'm wrong."

I am going to do my best to make sure these are enforced a little more. However, it's best done with soft power/leading by example than it is by crackdowns.

How did i miss this gem? http://www.honda-tech.com/zerothread/1653839 I said it wouldn't go above 800 by december 31st 06, and it didn't, nor has it since. You were wrong, you're still wrong, and if your actions in that thread are any indication of your intelligence, you will continue to be wrong. For those of you who don't want to rumage through that thread, mr skittle claimed gold would go above 800 dollars an ounce within 6 months of may 15thish 2006, gold has struggled to go above 700 dollars an ounce since, and hovered in the 650-700 range like i predicted. Back on topic: Ross, or Johnny, can we have a rule change to where if someone is posting an article/blog/partisan right wing propoganda piece (chet) that they have to use the quote feature of the boards to distinguish things? Or maybe just post a link and an intro paragraph instead of the entire atricle? Its getting annoying.

Funny, I was just browsing this thread to see if anyone had made a comment on that. I have spoken to chet a few times about it to no avail.

i dont think anybody should try to : out-do, fLAME,one-up, humiliate, or counterattack a person's beliefs unless statistics, polling data, or any other form of proof can provided. opinions are changed only with fact and facts are irrefutable, "theoretically" Making sure these people have to apply themselves to something other then myspace and the newest dick joke would go along way into creating a thread that can sustain an intellectual conversation without being clammored with "bush is teh stooopids" or "killary is the devil." and the name calling done to each other. issues would grow and so would members. people get offended and defended in here because everybody is debating 1 vs 1 when when it should be men vs machine. Discuss the problems, the issues, and the topics like you are not connected to a party. You don't have to defend everthing somebody says about your guy just b/c he's your guy for real. fact
