Video - 93 Mustang Cobra R chase at VIR - CarGuys
http://dwhrf...6.wmv
~11MB
Chasing a 1993 Cobra R, at least 400-450 all motor HP stock.
This car has lots of track mods, lots. So he's probably putting down 500+, and
he also has all sorts of suspension mods. The driver is no amateur either. He's
a really cool guy and has probably been driving on track longer then I've been
alive. A true track beast, and my daily driver was all over his ***!
I'm running straight wastegate on the track, ~8psi, ~260 whp. My car weights
about 2400 lbs. So he may have had 250 more hp then me, but I had at least
1000lbs less then him and as-big-as brakes as he did.
He had been chasing me for about 4 laps. We kept hitting a lot of traffic and after a good clean lap of him chasing me, I let him pass me on the back straight and chased him. Afterwards he came by the car and was asking all types of questions about my car and setup. I apologized for being on his *** in a couple of corners (even though he was on my *** in the straights) and he just laughed it off. He said he had a blast chasing me and being chased. He said that most of the cars in the white group can't keep up with him, aside from some of the super cars that just blow by everybody. He said it was a lot of fun playing around with a car that seemed evenly matched (even though it was a Honda).
Only got to drive one day with CarGuys. I got about an hour of video with my hatch-crap putting a lot of M3 owners in their place and running over stupid slow 944 Porsche's (without any tirewall incidents this time!).
Almost rear-ended a Ferrari champ car in the uphill S's, but then he dropped me on the back straight. I was really impressed that he could go really fast in a straight line .
Will work on some more video's. Many thanks to the P1 Auto crew for running a safe event!

I love hearing stories like this, when import+domestic owners actually have respect for each other. Usually you hear something like "the mustang owner got pissed and called my car jap crap". Very cool when it goes the other way...two people with different cars sharing the same passion.

I think my best was around a 2:12 something. I have to go back through my video and look at the times to see if I beat that.

LOL! All Cobra R's are pretty freakin' rare.
Can't wait to watch the video at home. I really should have come out to watch for a while on Saturday, but I was just plain wiped out

Well, we've never had an 'official' EC Honda Challenge points race on the full course. There's a NASA sprint race in Feb that a few HC guys run (crappy lap times in 2006 since it was SNOWING!), and there's a 3.5 hr enduro that same weekend that some HC guys run. For H2, I've got an officially scored lap during the enduro at 2:15.2. Jason Franza has gone a little quicker on Hoosiers during an untimed session. There's two pretty big straights so H1s should run low 2:12 - high 2:11?

Nope.
I would have asked Chris for the keys if they were there.

Chasing a 1993 Cobra R, at least 400-450 all motor HP stock.

Not to take anything away from your vid but that hp # didn't match up with what I remembered about the first "R's"... after looking around it appears that the 93 R's had 235 hp from the factory (not much more than a GT but they came with better suspension and rear seat delete). The 95's (with a larger engine) had 300hp stock. The newer supercharged Cobra's (03/04) are making close to 400 crank-hp...

The 93 R noted in the above vid is FAR from stock......
Once Don gets more than 1 track weekend on this setup, I'm sure all this talk of track records will be a mute point. O, I forgot, Don transported all his weekend luggage, X-box (burned the VIR Loge WiFi to the ground Friday night with X-Box Live), flat panel TV, tools, sub woofer and full wet bar to the track in this car.
All motor = ghey
K-Series = gheier
Boost = spinning 5th gear on the back straight (note the 8-9 second point during the vid)
