Default Teardown on an r18

Update> Pics of bottom end on page2.

We got an 06 civic in that was badly overheated. Tore it down to inspect the damage. Just thought some of you may be interested to see some of the changes they made.

Nope, they kept driving after a racoon took out their radiator.

Do insurance companies offer policies that insure damage caused by sheer stupidity? I mean, you have to be pretty stupid not to pull over and inspect the damage after hitting a racoon large enough to punch a hole in your radiator. You'd be even more stupid not to notice the temperature gauge spiking ("Honey, what's that thermometer thingy?") and shut the car off after that.

If you can't be bothered to learn the basics of car ownership and maintenance, you should be taking the damn bus.

Yea, all it would take would be a plate about an inch thick at most. There's plenty of room for a turbo.

I used to be a service advisor. I quite familiar with what they cover; hydrolocking ("The puddle didn't look that deep!"), body damage ("I didn't see the Christmas tree in the road."), animal-related damage ("Mice? In my car? Do you think the 50lb sack of dog food I keep in the trunk might have attracted them?"), etc.

What irritates me is the fact that every time they pay out on one of these stupid lack-of-basic-common-sense claims, the rates for the rest of us go up. Gotta love it.

They do their job, I do my job. I try not to think about the rest. Maybe one day someone will come up with a good solution.

We had an s2000 a couple years ago, the freeze data showed almost 11,000 rpms. Honda paid for the parts.

Ya, roller rockers are a cool touch which I think are long overdue..

Man, these things sure are built to be very compact now.. the "runners" from the exhaust ports are integrated into the head and incredibly short, which I'm sure hurts power. I'm sure this is a big plus for emissions however, the cat looks VERY close to the head.

Everything thing else looks pretty good overall. The composite/plastic intake manifold should be good to keep the intake temps down.

Nice picture. Thanks for sharing. Hate to see an engine in that shape. I agree with some of the other threads. You should pursue your ins co and warranty to see what you can get out them. Never know until you try.
