Default V-6 front brakes on a '95 4cyl

I just wanted to know if I need any other parts to complete the conversion.

This is all I'm getting so far:
Loaded calipers -$87 new
Rotors-$15 (a piece) new
Rims 15 inch+ (free) used

I'm pretty sure I can use same brake hoses.

search.
haha, sorry, but because of recent posts I couldn't resist

Anyways, to just upgrade to the AV6 front brakes, yes. Your stock hub and bearing assembly is the same and are fine to reuse.

Don't forget brake pads unless those are included with "loaded" brake calipers.

As for the brake lines, I haven't seen anyone say they needed new lines. I also looked at the part number on Majestic and they were the same.

yeah you are forgetting about calliper brackets (unless for some reason they come with the loaded callipers which i don't believe they do)...if they don't, source them from a 95-97 accord v6 or a 92-96 prelude vtec...

But, may I also suggest you check out legend gs sedan callipers...they are staggered 2 piston callipers instead of just the single sliding calliper...the 2 piston calliper will bolt up using the same brackets as the accord v6 callipers, if you want to go that route...there is quite an increase in braking in my opinion with these callipers...

why not just swap the loaded V6 knuckle on there? I4 brakes are pressed on rotors and the V6 one are slip on and much easier to work on.....

Loaded caliper set does come with everything: calipers, pads, brackets, all the hardware.

Hey thats a good idea (two piston) Nick H.
Can I just buy a loaded set of a Legend and bold it right up?

I can go the loaded knuckle way too, it'll be way more expensive though. I know that I4 calipers are pressed on and its a pain if you dont know how to remove it, luckily I worked on those fkrs before and have an access to the removal tool. That thing is the greatest and worth buying.
Ima do some pricing tomorrow, and see which way is that best.
Thanx for all that help and info guys, I really appriciate the effort.

wait, I thought the 5th gen AV6 brake setup are still hub-over-rotor?

You could do the rotor-over-hub swap with the Prelude or CL rotors, new bearings, CL hubs and your choice of calipers.
Rotor-Over-Hub Conversion

Yes, you can buy a loaded set of Legend calipers but you're going to want to make sure what caliper bracket comes with it.

According to the write-up I linked, the dual piston Legend calipers come with the 28T caliper brackets. It also states you'll need 23T caliper brackets regardless of what caliper you choose, so that would meen you would need a new bracket if you get the AV6 calipers or the Legend dual piston calipers.

I never got the chance to do this swap to my Accord so I'm just going off what I've read and that write-up.

Here is a recent thread where they used the stock 5th Gen AV6 rotors (hub-over-rotor design) and Legend dual piston calipers, except they used 25T brackets instead of the 23T like noted in that write-up I linked above.

yes you can...make sure you get the 91-95 acura legend gs SEDAN callipers...these are the only models that came with the two piston callipers...i'll try and get a picture of mine up here within the next few days...and don't worry, they will still fit under the stock 15" wheels...

and a note to TouringAccord....the 23t, 25t, and 28t brackets will all work with this setup...

The whole deal with the slip on AV6 rotors threw me off. I was at my work today looking at my brakes. I was lost!!! I was like: WTF? I have to get the whole spindle an all. Called my parts store an Mark was like: "Duuudeee!!!! You **** out of luck, go to the junk yard!!!" Oh yeah like Im going to find a V-6 Accord at the junk yard waiting for me. Its like looking for a live dinosaurs!!!! So I gave up on the idea, till I saw that link with the Legend dual pistons, which showed V6 PRESSED ON rotors. Thats just made my day. I''ll call car-parts again about Legend loaded calipers this time (they do come fully assembled, brackets and all) All I need is 15"+ rims. My freeby fell through. I was about to buy a clean 94 EX for $1000. Throw a hood paint it, replace both headlights. Swap da rims with my LX (hub caps) and re-sell it. But my dad stopped the bid at the auction at $1000 and it went for $1100. I was pretty pissed, but oh well there are tons of Accords there, I'll buy and strip one one day.
I called junk yards and this guy tells me $400 for 3 good and one bent rim. I was like WTF? I can go 2 South Carolina (love my state) and buy them for a $100. Ohio sux!!!!!
If anyone interested go to www.sadiscogreenville.com. Click on complete inventory and check it out. Pics and all.

ah, ok. Thanks, I didn't know that.

So are those brackets the same or different then? If they are different, what makes them different? If they are the same, why are they numbered differently? Just wondering.

for the rims, if your looking at junkyards try looking on Car-Part. I just looked on there and I saw a few for Lima, OH and Kenton, OH. Don't know if you knew about that site or not but I figured I would let you know anyway.

They are different...I believe the number refers to the measurement in mm's as to where the calliper is located relative to the rotor...

what is the difference between the dual pistin and single piston legend calipers besides the obvious of number of pistons. when i threw on the single pistons on my accord, they were a lot bigger than my stock ones and they did a much better job of stopping, it was really noticeable. just wondering cuz i am now selling them for a pair of brembo calipers.

ok, thats what I was thinking I wasn't 100% sure though.

So if they are all slightly different, in where they mount the caliper to the rotor, how will they all work with this setup? Just wondering cause it's not making sence to me.

I mean if you have the same knuckle, bearing, hub, rotor and caliper how can three different brackets all work? Wouldn't a bracket mount the caliper to far to one side of the rotor if it's not the right distance away? Thats where I'm getting lost as to why all three can work.

Not doughting you, just trying to understand is all.

There is an explanation on the bracket difference in the Hub-Over-Rotor Conversion site that you sent me. Info below.

To clarify on the question about the 23T brackets:

I had 28T brackets on my Legend calipers, and tried to fit them over the ITR rotors I use which are 23mm. The bracket *fits*, however there was a great deal of space between the pad and rotor, and the bracket caused the assembly to sit further out than normal, which could possibly interfere with wheel clearance. I do not feel comfortable recommending anything but the proper bracket for use with the rotors.

ah, I must have missed that.

Thats what I was figuring would happen. Just couldn't come up with the right words to describe I guess.

So they all can work with the setup but the 23T brackets would give the best fit?

just wondering, im not sure though but..

i wanna say i read somewhere that autoparts stores dont stock the legend 2 piston calipers, and when you order the gs sedans, you still only get a single piston version...
so a junkyard would be the only way to get some?

I found the calipers, brand new!!!!!! They are dual piston and come with in complete set (with brackets and all). They are $100 per side at the "World something??". Its a parts store in Cleveland, O.H. I can give a # if anyone wants it.

They do have them in stock!!!

Finally I can go on with my project. What a relief!!

23T brackets wont fit the AV6 25mm rotors. the clearance is not there. the problem of using 28T brackets with 23T rotors or thinner rotors is that at end of life of pads...the pads might slip out of the bracket due to the large gap between the rotor and bracket.

the 25T brackets i have have about 1mm gap on each side. I was lucky and found a **** load of Legends and an Accord V6 at a U-Pick. I got several sets of 23T brackets and the AV6 calipers and brackets... that place was shafting though... i was paying dismantler prices for U-Pick parts. They had a large inventory though.

ok, so pretty much just match the caliper bracket to the rotor you'll be using?
