Default S2000 with a supercharger 1/4 times?

hey my dad and I are looking to buy a supercharger or a turbo kit for the s2000...some kits that ive read say that they put out 100 more hp... now are they really that safe and what will my 1/4 times be afterwards? also how much psi stock can it hold without blowing the motor? thanks, mike

seems high 12's are common.

I think the Comptech kit puts out 5 psi. The S motor isn't ideal for forced induction due to the 11:1 compression ratio. Is it safe? Yes, IF AND ONLY IF you tune it right and don't get greedy on the boost. The more boost, the more power, and the greater chance of detonation. Controlling detonation is the tricky part. Now, it is SAFE, but the motor will certainly wear out much faster.

you can easily slap on either the vortech or comptech SC kits and be done with it. Like any other car, it wont last being abused. The setup out of the box is fine, but it can be perfected for better drivability, power, and safety via a standalone engine management and tuning.

you wont be fast enough to justify the $$$ you put into the car. If 1/4 mile times is the only thing you care about, look at a different car.

in that case, there isn't much you can do get the SC kit first with a stand alone engine management, have it tuned. See what you think, have a few runs at it, be sure to have an higher clamping pressure plate and higher friction disk in your clutch package. If the car is still too slow, upgrade the ring and pinion gears.

Why don't you spend some money on lower cr pistons like 8.5 and then boost the hell out of it with confidence of power output.

First thing to do is learn to launch the car. Go to the track and see what you run, then come back here and let us know. This will help figure out what you will run with what.

i am not sure what 1/4 times would be,(not taken to the track yet...) but my buddy has everything comptech makes for the s2k on his.... i mean everything, his car should be the comptech poster child.....

he runs race gas all the time... w/o a cat

drives the car only on weekends

he also just installed the richmond final drive, and the 04 comptech pulley for more boost.....

Does anybody know what would be better to throw on an S2000. A turbocharger or a supercharger. I live in New Mexico and my elevation is pretty high (7,000ft). Would altitude have a factor in this?

There are loads of threads discussing what you are asking, just have a quick look. The opinion seems to be divided, but the basic conclusions is this. Turbo's produce more power, but cost more to achieve. If you arent going to go over about 300whp, then a super is ideal. The bottom end seems to allow about 5-7 psi of boost safely which is about 100bhp. Yes, the altitude will make a difference, but you can up the spin rate on the charger to compensate (you wouldn't need to on a turbo as the wastegate actuator would be set at certain pressure, no matter what the turbo spin rate was). Just remember, that if you are going to drive downhill(!) to change to make sure you don't detonate.

S2000 by far. stock for stock the S2K is a low 14 second car. The RSX is a mid-15 second car, low 15's on a good day.
