I have a 95' EG SiR Civic (Not my daily driven car)and im just getting into the JDM scene. Alot of my friends right now are driving NA motors. My engine blew not to long ago, and I thought now would be the perfect time to get into tuning. But I don't know what motor I should get. I've asked my friends and they all tell me different ones (each tells me the one they're running, like the one with the B18C5, tells me to get a B18C5.) The motors I've had in mind were: B18's, B20's, H22's or H23's. I just want raw power without getting gay and bolting on a turbo. Money is not a problem. And once I decide on a motor im going to start looking into sending it to Japan to be overhauled, and etc. (Most likely be sending it to Spoon, because I have a friend who works over there.) So what motor will be best outfitted with all Spoon parts? And remember NA.

Agian, every "what swap should I get" should be based on your budget and your wants/needs.
Check pricing on a site such as HMO.com or similar and then see what you like the best out of either finding cars in your area with the swaps or the pros/cons that I've outlined. Ive got a y7 with a turbo setup on it and its faster than anything else for the money here as long as you don't have goals of 300+whp.

Cons
Not as much potential as some other motors Transmission not geared for accelleration Don't respond to bolt ons well Only way to get real power out of them is FI Bolt ons as in CAI and Full exhaust? Any proper way to gear the tranny for acceleration. And what D series are we looking at ? Model wise that reaches the 130 break point. |

K series into what car again.
There's a ton to know about the K series when slammin it into a different car. there's a lot of info on http://www.7thgencivic.comif you search for it. A lot of members have done the swap and others have researched it because they intend to do it....like me. I'm waiting for the K24. You can also look to Hasport for guidance. They've done the K20A2 into a 7thgen Civic Sedan and a turbo K20A2 into an EK hatch. Next level performance in Toronto has put the K20a2 into an EG hatch as well. |

I have a 94' EX coupe. Thanks for the website.
Question: My buddy told me that I could take a B16 block and put a GSR head on it. Is that possible and is it more work than its worth or is that a good thing to do? Modified by Vtec-94 at 10:09 AM 7/29/2004 Modified by Vtec-94 at 6:13 AM 7/30/2004

The B16A head is pretty good - pretty much the same as the Type R head, just without the mild porting job. The GSR head might be slightly better, but I don't think it would be worth the trouble to make the swap.

They don't respond all that well to bolt ons. 10-15 hp MAX for bolt ons (around 800 bucks or so) is NOT a good bang for the buck mod. No D series have a very accelleration oriented transmission. Simple as that. The shortest D tranny that isnt custom (ex/si) is abou the same as the longest B tranny (ls gearbox)

I'm a little confused. I apologize, but I'm a newbie to hondas.
My 94 EX coupe is OBD II from the factory, or OBD I? And if I'm going to do a swap, I noticed there are two versions of the B16A2. The OBD II and OBD I. Which one do I want to go with? |

I appreciate your very detailed info, but I'm not saavy enough to understand everything. I have a 92 civic dx with the standard d15b7 engine that is currently dead. I was told a d15b SOHC VTEC engine would make a clean swap. Visually, it doesn't look like it will (I don't know what this engine would have come out of).
When I say clean, I'm looking for an easy, straight forward swap or one with little alterations. I have a master certified mechanic to perform the work but he does not have compatibility information. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated- thanks.

I have a ls/vtec and it is great, but when the shop did the swap they drilled a hole in the top of the valve cover for the pcv valve. does any one know why?
