-so does that P13 turbo feel like it's loosing power in the top end like the greddy 15G would on the B18b motors?
-so you just used the Dseries manifold? how much did you have to port out? is it affecting your performance at all? -what is that turbo flang? any other manifold that i could get for the Bseries?

The turbo doesn't feel undersized at all. You can see that the HP is increasing all the way to redline. If it was dropping you'd know the turbo was running out of it's range. I've felt a turbo run out of breath before. I had a td04 on a zc and it quit pulling up top with 10psi. The apexi feels like it wants to make more boost still.
You have to redrill the holes where the studs on the head bolt up. You also should grind out the ports. The middle two ports aren't that bad to start with but the outside ports need about 3/8" of material removed which doesn't leave a lot of material on the outside of the flange. I actually drove the car with the ports not matched and the lag was kinda slowish for that size turbo. After I decided the turbo wasn't too small I port matched the manifold and I noticed a better spool. I really don't think it's a limiting factor. I haven't seen a t3/t4 make power this good at 10psi. I can only imagine how nice it will be when I can smooth out the a/f. I looked around for a B-series manifold before I installed the turbo of course but there were none that would fit. There is the HKS manifold that uses a t25 flange but it's the HKS t25 which is different than the USDM t25. It was a great looking manifold and it all matched up but the turbo holds the studs and the manifold is thru bolted on the Apexi kit. The HKS manifold is designe to hold the studs and the turbo to be thru bolted. That was the problem. I then tried to get SFP to make a manifold but they said it was impossible since the flange was to be thru bolted and they couldn't get the collector to fit on the flange with enough room for bolts too. I said screw it and got out the grinder. 2.5 hrs later I'm rocking. I'd totally recomend it for the street. Maybe you'd want a bigger turbo at the dragstrip but you could even autocross this one. SO...... your saying:
1)HKS manifold turbo flang will accept the Apexi P13 turbo. 2)HKS b-series manifold has the studs attached to it. -the P13 turbo has the studs attached to it....=so they won't work together. Right? 3) if that is correct could you just CUT off the studs on the HKS manifold and DRILL new holes on the FLANG to accept the studs coming from the turbo?

1= yes
2= yes 3= no because the studs coming from the hks manifold would poke down into the actual turbo and that is no good. You can make two studs on the centershaft side work but the other two are in the turbo itself. Trust me, I tried. The only thing else would be to weld the two together. I understand it's really tough to weld cast steel parts together though. |

also have you noticed that your power band is at 4000 RPM?
im getting 170 HP on a stock b16a2 engine/exhaust/cat at 6500 RPM, and then ping the rest of it up. my torque is okay, but nothing incredible. Also I've got problems starting the car.. is this the same with you? What I dislike, is that either my power needs to be shifted over to 7600 RPM or I am supposedly going to get more power. And yes, my A/F readings was all over the place.

Gotta give it
this is very nice for a street machine. just think about what that graph would look like if he had it fully tunned with hondata. --I'm guessing about 10hp and 15tq more. and a much smoother powerband(even though that does look fairly nice already.

Screw that SMC. If it's made for turbo and doesn't allow adjustment in the most important part of a turbo engines power-band. When the turbo spools up it needs to be constantly changing the A/F to match the amount required. Lousy way of doing things if you ask me.

Thanks man, Santa was good to me so all I've got to do is wait for the various businesses I need to open back up and I'm going to try and tune it for 14psi with Hondata and a 2bar map senor.
I'd really like to get at least 270 at the wheels.

i thought with the smc or the hack, u dont need an upgraded fuel pump? im runnin the hack on my prelude, just 450s and the vafc, and it feels stock, i thought the smc was supposed to be done the same way?

Is the Apexi turbo similar to the greddy SOHC kit's turbo? Just wondering if you can expect similar results with a SOHC greddy kit on a B-series running lower boost (6-8).
Nice TQ

the sohc greddy kit is non-ball bearing. not only that but it runs out of breath up top and you can only push it up to 13-15psi before it gets too heatsoaked.
apexi is worth the extra $800. |

I did see a stock ls making 277hp with a t3/t4 @ 12psi. That's pretty good. Keep in mind I bet most of those t3/t4 graphs I've seen are not tuned optimally... but my a/f was horrible and I had to retard my base timing a bunch to keep it from detonating so with a good a/f accross the board I bet my numbers would go up too.
I don't know what it really compares to. It's hard to say becasue it's pretty small but it's also pretty high-tech compared to the basic garretts. |

ive seen that dip before on NA non vtecs at 4k. a skunk2 intake manifold smoothes out the tq curve and totally eliminates the dip on NA so it might be worth a try on a turboed car.

Yeah, that dip in this case though is directly related to the fact that I couldn't get my a/f any richer than 13.5:1 at the rpm.
