Nice one, Spade! I agree with everything you said. The only place I would have differed are on some of the brands, i.e. I prefer the 'plastic fanstastic' Iceman intake from Knight Engineering to the AEM (Iceman increases air velocity as it travels toward to the TB) and maybe the obligatory NGK plug statement.
I've been trying different plugs lately. I tried some Bosch plats and they sucked, (which I already knew) but, of interest are the lowly 99-cent Champion 318 Copper Plus spark plugs. I threw a set in, last week, and reset my ECU. Much to my surprise, they are behaving every bit as well as NGK's. Hrm... we'll see how long they last. Anyway, well done!

i like the Bosch Supers...cheap too.
oh don't forget to talk about the D16A6 Wagon Block...has a half shaft! So if you are looking for a spare block to build up, look for the wagon block...they can be found for a few hundred bucks. [Modified by RR98DX, 1:26 AM 11/16/2002]

WOuld like to add something on coolant, over in the racing forum they are very fond of using a product called Water Wetter. Added to your coolant it will help keep your tems down in extreme driving conditions. Now these guys use one bottle of the wetter and then water as their fluid, no antifreeze. This is doe to the regulation that you cannot use antifreeze on the track (majoir mess if you wreck). So you guys in the upper states may not want to go this route during the winter.
Also, Header. There will be both 4-2-1 and 4-1 designs. By and large, a 4-1 will give you better top end, but you will loose on the bottom (I also think you have more of a chance of damamging it if you lower your car, it hangs lower) the 4-2-1 will give you more low end and mid range power. I ill not even start with a brand preference here, but it does seems like the better known brands do perform better. Added my $.02 |

I knew someone was going to mention the NGK's
I just go with what works and since you only replace the suckers every 20,000. I didn't think that a buck more a plug would matter. To you Deuce, for trying stuff for yourself.I didn't mention the water wetter for the simple reason that someone would try it up North and it is winter time. Be careful you guys up North, when water freezes it expands and it is always in the block so you can crack your block.

When, and if, the water jackets in your CiViC start to boil the coolant, it forms large air bubbles on the surface[s]. Air does NOT conduct heat as well as fluid, so this is a very bad thing. Water Wetter breaks up the air bubbles, allowing more coolant to contact the walls, making a critical improvement in cooling over water and/or antifreeze by itself IN EXTREME CONDITIONS. Having said that, there is no such thing as a free lunch... Water Wetter contains borates and silicates which are bad for Honda engines; not as bad as overheating, but bad all the same. Water Wetter's pH is off the scale. That's why it has borates/silicates in it. Red Line says the pH is low, but that is ONLY when it's fresh and new. However, around 15,000 miles, the borates/silicates start to fail and Water Wetter will begin the process of corroding your cooling system. Read and heed Red Line's instructions on the label. If you decide to run Water Wetter, be aware: 1) Mix it according to the instructions. That would be 32:1, coolant to Water Wetter, or 4 oz. of Water Wetter in a typical Honda CiViC cooling system. DO NOT ADD MORE THAN 4 OUNCES OF WATER WETTER TO YOUR COOLING SYSTEM!!! 2) Follow the instructions and dump 'n' flush your coolant ever 15,000 miles. Word! 3) Don't use Water Wetter unless you are willing to do the above. Consider it a necessary evil for some --- and simply an evil for everyone else... I thought the D16A1 gives you around 13:1 CR and the D16A6 gives you around 11:1 CR? Correct me if I'm wrong, I want to know.

MAKE SURE U GET THE P29 ONES FROM 88-89. they r identical to the jdm zc. 86-87 suck.period. hey spade put this in your paragraph or something please [Modified by JaeOne3345, 8:44 PM 11/16/2002]

What compression would D16A6 pistons be in a D16Y8 motor?
