2001 Celica GT-S 6-Speed vs. 2001 Prelude Type SH
which car is faster?? i know for a fact that the celica is 500 pounds lighter than the prelude, but prelude has more power, torque and has vtec, celica has the 6-speed advantage.....

A prelude should beat a celica assuming both have equal drivers. Also having vtec and a 6 -speed is not an advantage.

Prelude is faster...If the preludes lost to a celica, than the driver needes to sell the car and let someone with better skills have the car...Just cause it has 6 gears doesn't make the car better

5th gens are slow... bring the GT-S up against a 4th gen vtec then we'll see who's talking..

didn't toyota lower the fuel cutoff point on the gts in 01, or was it 02? that should make it just a tad bit easier for a prelude to beat the gts. all things being equal, the gts should be a hair faster. but that doesn't make it better, preludes are so much better than celicas.
and the gts actually has a more advanced variable valve timing system than the VTEC used in the prelude. more comparable to the rsx type s than the prelude really.

HANDS DOWN... the Prelude would win..... i found my Prelude while checking out the Toyota lot for a new GT-S, i test drove the GT-S, and kinda liked how it felt and all, but then i drove the, soon to be my, Prelude, and that's what i bought, 2 days later.....
i raced my friend with a TRD Celica one, no, the TRD Celica isn't SCed, it's only got like 20 more ponys, but 2 days after he bought it, he raced me, i had I/H/E and he had a cold air intake, and the TRD exaust.... an i won... hte only time he caguht up to me was at over 125 mph, b/c he has another gear, but i was still ahead when we put on the breaks....

Honestly i believe that the GTS 6 speed will beat the SH lude. If u go read around couple cellicas rain high 14's stock and mid 14's with just an intake. Considering they have 180hp and 1?? TQ with 500lbs less and vvti engine, it should be fast, just my opinion

prelude i've had a chance to drive both. you don't need 6 gears, espcially w/ out the torque of the lude.

IMO prelude will own...I have driven both, the GTS VVTL-I or (whatever it is called) only feels like the powerband is 500rpms long....
I did race a GTS in my SH, I won by about 2 car lengths...w/only intake
But the race could come down to driver..it is still close to the lude.

i-vtec has on the intake cam. VVTL-i is like vtec (only toyota is 10 years behind), meaning there are two separate cam profiles, one of which is used at either low or high rpms. i-vtec is like that on the exhaust cam, but on the intake cam there are multiple levels of lift. BMW's Valvetronic system is more like i-vtec but better because it has cam phasing on both intake and exhaust cams.

Sorry guys, but according to the last road test I saw, the stock Celica beat the stock SH (6.8 0-60 vs 7.2/3 for the SH). Main factor wasn't hp or gearing, it was weight! The SH weighs in at +3000 lbs stock vs under 2700 lbs for the GT-S. However, reportedly if they both add the same bolt-ons the Lude is screwed. I also heard about mid 14's with i/e.
And they changed the fuel cutoff on the GT-S for the 2002 model.

So since you beat one celica then hands down all preludes will win?
My X girfriend ran a 14.8 in her celica BONE STOCK, She has also laid down more then a few 5th gens. In the preludes defenses she has also lost to a few 5th gens. go over to newcelica.org there are people in there running 14.5's with nothing but an intake with time slips to prove it. The celica is aimed at the integra anyway not the prelude.
X VS X car on the internet

Valvetronic debuted on the new 7, but supposedly the system is so great, they want to use it on all their new models, new z4 might have it. I forgot where I read about the system but if I find it I'll go more in depth.
Also, your base model should have more hp that a SH because the atts results in a slightly higher drivetrain loss. Then again every car is different, my baseline pull on the SH was 161whp, and most SHs I've seen do ~155whp. I guess I have a factory freak.

ok, ok, i can't remmber the numbers, but supposedly, the base at ~6600 rpms produce 195 or 200 hp (depending on year), and the SH did the same at 6600 rpms, but at ~7700 rpms, it produces 215, and no number was given for the base model at 7700 rpms
i guess they were trying to compensate for drivetrain loss
