Default Function7 Counterfeit Warning - how to spot

We just got alerted to counterfeit Function7 products being sold overseas, and figured we'll post a counterfeit warning and how to spot counterfeit Function7 products.

These fake products are unsafe -- inferior/unknown material, incorrect engineering, improper bushings (our arms weren't designed for OEM style press-in bushings so this is a no no even for a fake).

More information at:
http://function7.com/warning#arms

We also came across counterfeit Beaks and ASR products:

Legally speaking, I know there's not much for international copyright laws but what can be done about falsely proclaiming "MADE IN THE USA?" For if they are truly made domestically you can go after the knock-off artists, but if not that in and of itself has federal trade laws written all over it.

Best of luck F7!

EDIT: Kudos to putting those two eBay retailers on blast!

This is a big problem in Asia. You see products with a falsified country of origin on the product itself very very often. Growing up there, I can tell you the situation is rampant (fake Nike shoes, etc).

It's hard to track the manufacturer down since these are usually sub-sub-sub-sub contracted out to small shops and they just crank them out without regard to intellectual property laws, trade laws etc, and tracking them down after the fact is like finding a needle in the haystack, let alone going after them.

Anyway, we think we've tracked down the overseas seller. Not sure what we can do but we are checking.

Wow, didn't think they would start copying your arms now. After doing some searching, I found these. These look fake by the look of the bushings, but it has the F7 barcode sticker on it.

This fake product $hit is getting out of control.

I ran into an online store two days ago selling the ASR Brace for $129 shipped...they were even as ballsy as taking a picture of the made in the USA stamp too. Yet the site was not even listing the product as an ASR subframe brace. Of course I emailed the company selling them (asking if the brace was real.) Its been three days, I've heard nothing...

Ran into this thread tonight, went back to the website with "fake products" on my mind. Product was gone. :-/

The Beaks does because it's such a simple piece but the ASR looks way different - especially the "hardware!"

They could be a "good" fake or could be completely legit (if real, had the bushings may have been replaced with OEM style bushings). Those pics are so blurry its hard to tell.

The problem is our arms were NOT designed with the OEM style bushings in mind and pressing (aka "forcing") the bushing in will damage the structure of the arm. If you ever come across our arms with similar OEM style bushings, they are unsafe, the warranty is already void - so even if they are real, avoid them.

rock and republic actually sued the sellers of bootleg jeans once they came to the states. if you have patents or any copyrights it's actually illegal to sell the fake product in the usa

i read a story about one dude getting 3 yrs for selling an *** ton of fake jeans

Actually, the engraving we have is different - it was changed a couple years ago because of slight revisions to the arms (the version number is actually engraved on the arm). Of course we won't be posting what they look like so that the counterfeiters can keep guessing.

Right -- until they start bringing the fakes in to the states, I don't think we can do anything.
