Default AHVTEC's Getting Fresh Paint - 1994 EH3 Civic Content

Dont Hate on me too Hard LOL.

Hows it going everyone, my name is Kegan A.K.A. AHVTEC , I’ve been in the Honda game since I could drive… So about 6 years. My first car was a 1995 GSR Integra, I had it for a little over 2 years and then I traded it for a 99CX hatch and a Built GSR… I put the GSR into the CX but couldn’t get it to run correctly… In a nutshell, RYWIRE’s Harness was Incorrect, the Map sensor was pinned wrong, a friend of mine and also a friend of the person that I traded the car with, discovered it after I traded for the car you’ll see below.
I want to start off by saying that I've looked at a TONNN of build threads and until now I didn't realize how much work it took to create and manage a thread even as extensive as the one I'm posting... Most of the Build Threads I've looked at are much more in depth than mine... So Props to those who have created those wonderful, extensive and in depth build threads for everyone to follow... Its part of what makes our hobby so great.

I've had my Civic since Early Summer of 2007. Since then Its been through a few changes, nothing crazy, but since I've owned it I've ALWAYS wanted to have it repainted because It had a good bit of dings and scratches. When I originally got the car I was under the impression that it was Formula Red because one of the previous owners kept the paint can from when it was repainted before. So basically in the three years and a few months that I’ve owned the car I’ve thought and have been telling people that my car was Formula Red. I guess in the time I’ve had my car I’ve grown partial to “Formula Red”, I’ve always thought that my paint had great depth even though the quality of the paint job was poor. Long story short the car was not actually formula red, later in the thread you’ll see exactly what color it is and what I decide to do with the color.

Since 2007, I've changed the wheels quite a few times and have done little Knick Knack stuff here and there. When I would plan on getting the car painted I'd find another set of wheels that I liked and I would focus my money on wheels. My Priorities just weren't always in the best interest for the car to get re-painted. I knew my cars drawback was the shitty paint job but I was scared to pull it apart and just have it painted. I have always been very Obsessive Compulsive about my EH it seems (Just ask my close Friends LOL... "Don’t Touch it... Don't Even Look at It" - Hangover. HAHAHA) even with its shitty paint, so I guess part of why I was hesitant to have the car re-done was because I didn't know if I could handle the stress and upkeep of having a nice paint job that could only go downhill from the day it comes out of the booth.

The reason I finally broke down and decided to have the car painted was because one day while I was at work my car got keyed. I guess It was kind of the last straw, I knew I couldn’t be driving it around with almost every panel on the car scared from being keyed, so off she went about a month or so later to be repainted.

This is how my car looked when I got it... I put my Slipstreams on and added my Ebay Coilovers with Tokicko Shocks from my previous car, I bought some HID's, some ITR cams and then shortly after purchased the parts from Honda that you will see further on down the page.

My Next Set of wheels... Mugen RNR's

Added the Function and Form Version 1 Type 2's...

I Found a very slight bend on one of my RNR's that I guess I didn’t notice when I purchased them so I decided to sell them and buy brand new RPF1's...

After 3 months of owning the Enkei's I decided I wanted to get ahold of some Diamond Black RE30's, bought them brand new.

Three Months passes after owning the RE's... I found a great deal on 5 Lug suspension so I sold both the Enkei's and the Volks and picked up the USDM 5 Lug.

A couple of months later I sourced some Black SRD's.

I had been rocking the ITR wheels for a few months at this point and one day my good friend Tuan - HT SN - 6SPD_EJ6 found me some 5 Lug 15 Inch +43 Matte Black Volk CE28's... The following day I made the Journey to go pick them up. (Thanks to my Girl Friend and Dad for fronting me the money to get them when I didn't have it.)

The Day I picked them up.

First Pictures with them on the car. (most recent look.)

Just a couple of Random pictures

The Same Night…This is after the body guy got ahold of the car… Had to see how bad the rust really was. It was hard to watch someone that I had only known for 5 minutes do this to my car, granted I’ve known my painter for about 3 years, he assured me that Scott (the body guy) was the best man for the job... He took a knife and dug through each piece of rust that was on the car

The Color that is laid down on the hood in the following two pictures is Formula Red... Had too much orange in it for my taste (Hard to Tell From the Pictures)... Since then I've decided to change it up a bit.

Some More Paint Work.
After I saw how Formula Red laid down, not being the exact color I had hoped for, I decided to just match the color that was on my car... The car ended up being a color called Rio Red (1997 Ford Mustang Cobra Color) according to the Spies Hecker camera. The Spies Hecker gave my painter the strongest and most accurate reading it could give at a .4, so once I saw how badly the Formula Red came out (Too Orangey for my taste) I decided just to play it safe and match the color that I had grown accustomed to in the 3 years and some change that I have owned the car. (The Flash altered the color a bit in these next few pics)

You weren't joking when you said the paint looked better in pics than it did in person. Rust is a bitch for sure. I can't wait to see this thing looking minty fresh. Keep us updated homie.

Looks great Kegan, my only advice to you after you get it back is to keep the car clean and don't let bugs sit on your bumper for too long or bird poop because that stuff ruins the paint. Another thing is invest in wash and detail supplies. Keep it waxed and all, that will help protect the paint. Good luck!

The TSX is great, we love driving that thing. Ended up going with S-Techs and got the Works on there, de-badged, Euro R grille, blacked out door handles etc etc.

Looks great Kegan!!!!!!!! I agree 100% with the statement above. The paint will last forever and endure alot if you take care of it. Hopefully we'll see it at IA next year?
