J swapped..... Sandrail project!
Well, I know I'm kind of new here, but I figured you guys might like his. We got a new project in. I know this is a bit different, but bear with me.
First, we started off with a Sand rail that had a porsche 914 engine in it. Time to swap in a J series.
For the beginning pictures, see:
http://www.addictsracing.com/sandrail-swap
Now, we're getting in a bit deeper
We're using:
99 Accord J30 motor
Stock injectors
Walboro 255lph inline pump
AEM EMS 1060
CRX Mishimoto radiator / Slim fans
VW transaxle
Kennedy Engineering engine - trans adapter
Custom made headers
Custom fabbed wiring harness
Pictures of how it sits now:
Let me know what you guys think thus far!
-Josh

I honestly couldn't imagine this thing with a turbo on it. It's going to be scary just NA. I know for a fact that it's going to want to do wheelies with just a tap of the gas. The 3.0 NA is all it needs for now!

How much has this thing cost so far?
What is the purpose of it, racing?
What transmission are you using?

I'm not sure how much air flow you're going to get through the radiator where it is currently. Though I'm sure you've considered all other options already... there's not much of a choice for location.

i dont think rad airflow is going to be an issue for him with the twin shrouded mishimoto fans. if for some (highly unlikely) reason they dont pull enough air, he could always slap on some of the 2 speed for taurus fans that flow over 4000 cfm of air each. the ford fans are a huge hit in the off road community where very slow speeds, and heavly worked engines need lots of help staying cool.

On a related note, the NSX C30 and C32 (similar to J motors) are becoming more and more popular for sand rails. With them, you get great cylinder heads, dual cams, more aggressive vtec profiles and a mid-engine tranny. I've been in a couple that were really, really fun.

Thanks for the interest guys! I honestly don't know what it weighs at this point, but I do know that trying to keep the front end down is going to be fun.

Re: J swapped..... Sandrail project!
man that is sick!!! the oil filter scares me though. how much ground clearance is there from the filter to the ground when the rail is all the way down?

Re: J swapped..... Sandrail project!
There are still more bars that are going to be welded in place, so the oil filter won't be so exposed.
This is a current project, it's not done yet!

Re: J swapped..... Sandrail project!
Nice!!
We've got a B series sandrail that we take to Glamis, pismo, dumont. etc.
B20 Vtec
Kennedy Adapter
Same as yours we're using the bus trans (until it lets go!)
t3/t4 Turbo. boosting 10 psi.
Rail is similar design to yours..
Basic motor that pulls wheelies no prob!!
Yours looks great! hopefully we can see some pics of it in action somewhere!!

Thanks for the compliment!
I bet that turbo B20/Vtec sand rail is a lot of fun!
I'm still working on getting some videos of it running!
