Alphanumeric ID for the engine; like a serial number

Also know that the 85-87 Civic/CRX Si engine has more than one name.

In 1985 it was called the EW4. Starting in 1986 the EW4 got a new name, it became the D15A3 and carried that name through the 1987 model year. The only difference between the EW4 and the D15A3 are some of the electrical connectors got a fresh new design in the later engine.

Want more complication? In EDM and JDM markets, the 1.5/12 valve, fuel injected engine has a wacky fith fuel injector and was known as the EW5.
