Icon2 Buying a new car custom from manufacturer?

So last time I bought my car, I bought new, but straight off the lot (they coincidentally had the exact car w/exact features I wanted). I'm looking to pick up the 2010 Chevy Equinox (with some select features), but it's sold out across every stealership within a 20 mile radius.

Question: Do you still haggle on price when ordering online via a stealership? What's the process/how long does it take?

Secondary question: Should I buy it?

Looking to get the 3.0L V6, black granite metallic exterior w/ titanium & black leather interior, chrome package. (Different from the pics below obviously)

100k mile warranty anyone? Besides, it has a pretty respectable MPG rating IMO... the 6 cyl is 18/25, which, for an SUV is pretty damn good.

Currently I'm rockin' an '08 Civic Hybrid, but I drive like 6,000 miles a year so it's not like moving to an SUV will hit the wallet much. The civic is just too damn small and can't carry shit. I also need a tow hook

Youre definitely gonna pay for it. Personally Id just find one with the features and live with whatever color if its a good bit cheaper.

I heard if you buy through BMW, they'll fly you out and teach you how to drive your car once its been built. This includes a stay in Germany while your car is being built.

They won't fly you out, but they will teach you to drive your car. I did that class with my dad when they had his car in the shop (except they DID pay for our airfare and hotel accommodations ) It was pretty neat, we got to lap the '08 M5 with an ex-formula 1 driver Ride of my life.

Personally, I've had 2 GM vehicles and my parents have had countless over the years. They are great cars, but they have terrible resale value. I wouldn't buy anything GM unless it was RWD and V8.

Having said that..the GM version looks better, and I doubt you'll be able to haggle.

The Chevy version looks too much like the Acadia. That may be a good thing to you, but it's just too "crossover" for me.

x2. Looking at it more, I don't think I'm too crazy about it. It even looks like a heavier gas guzzler. The Equinox looks more refined.

The picture over exaggerates it, its not nearly as bulky as that angle makes it look.

The GMC is definitely the manlier of the 2, by far, and even more so in person.

GLD also DD a 08 Cobalt that I bought new. Sure, a Civic is nice, but I don't want to pay $20,000 OTD for a Civic LX-S. You would not believe what I paid for that car.

Inventory are so tight that my dealer only have 1 cobalt on the lot - thanks to C4C. Cobalt guys just went back to work. When I got mine, there were well over 20 on the lot, so they had to "give me" mine.

So expect to pay more now. Orders I heard about 45-60 days out.

Should you buy it? Yes, "new" GMs products are build together much better.

Do some research and find out what the lowest possible sales price would be.call up all the dealers in the area, tell em what you want, and what you will pay. they will say no at first but in a matter of days will be calling you back
