For a few dollars more:
http://www.honda-tech.com/showthread.php?t=2675203 '02 with 12000 miles the bike should be still very fresh looking. Just look for ANY sign that the 'never dropped' statement is false. Ask to see the bike with the engine cold, so you'll see if she's a smoker. Oil level and quality are clue's to the guys ability to care for the bike, and check if the oil filter looks changed recently or on there since day one. There's lots more to look for if your new to bikes, find a web guide etc. ANY doubt, walk away. Plenty bikes, you can always come back

ill add somethings
check if she tracks straight releasing your grip on the grips and if the clip-ons are straight. also the plastic is replacable but often times people snap some of the tiny tabs holding them together. wire looms for tears and if case halves are sealed with RTV of some kind or a real gasket from the manufacturer. |

things that go wrong on F4i's:
Regulator rectifiers. these would affect the electrical system/charging system. not easy to spot during a test ride though. Still, it's not hard to fix and it's relatively cheap to replace. Cam Chain Tensioner Lifter: every F4i's OEM CCTL fails at about 8000 miles. You'll hear it as a buzzing sound between 4000 and 8000 rpm. Sounds like a bunch of bb's rattling around. Not a major problem, but if you let it slide too long, it could fubar the valvetrain. The remedy is to replace it with a $50 manual CCTL from APE, which you can install yourself--though it's sort of a pain (good to have small hands). Other than that, there's no major problems with F4i's. They're otherwise invincible bikes.

My Honda F4i had a CCT problem. It's extremely common.
Test ride the bike and check for a rattling noise coming from the engine. Buy a manual CCT from APE. Tutorials can be found online. http://www.aperaceparts.com/ |

look at the tabs that hold the plastics on. look at the chain. look for rubber on the inside front of the swingarm and shock for signs of burnouts

If mine's got that problem I'm apparently not hearing it. 14,500 on my '04.
