Default Question - which car to get for track and autocross

Okay, so i have decided to get into Road racing/Auto cross and i'm currently in the process of purchasing a new car, now i want to go with the one that would have the best setup for my new hobbie. so here it goes.

Car number 1: 2000 civic si, type r motor putting down 205whp.

Car number 2: 1996 civic, B20b built on boost putting down 280whp on 10psi, but was built to handle way more.

So if you guy's were in my shoes what would be the best ride to go with, Both cars priced the same.

And please if you have nothing good to say keep your comments to your self just trying to get into something new and looking for new people to meet along the way. Thanks.

Neither.

Either of those would put the car into a class that they'll need a ton of prep work to be competitive.

If you're just getting into auto-x and/or roadracing, you want a nice stock car to learn with.

At one point in time, I was in your shoes, trying to pick a somewhat powerful car to have fun with. I ended up doing the right thing, and learned to auto-x in a stock GSR. Over time, as my skill improved, the car was updated to go along with it.

I agree!

If you're a novice, you're much better off starting with a stock vehicle, not modded at all. It will be infinately easier to learn on, and give you time to focus on refining your driving skills.

Motor swaps are going to put you into a insanely cometitive class, and you're going to wind up spending more time trying to modify the car to be competitive instead of the driver.

Depends on what your goals are. Eventually looking to do Honda challenge? Time attack? SCCA autox? Or just looking to have fun?

If you're just looking to have fun, I'd go with a stock civic si. Fun and fast enough stock.
Otherwise, consider a miata.

Maybe some good old fashioned research would help?
Read the forum and see what the majoirty of the members are driving.

Dont bump this to the top because number one you arent the only member to post asking us for an opinion on what to buy. That question has been asked hundreds of times.
Two ,Stinky will lock your thread. Read the FAQ first there is plenty of information there that you can start off with.
Read, research!
The best advice i can give you, has already been given.
Your a novice with no track experience.. so buy something stock run it.
Get seat time, when you learn how to control a stock vehicle then you start making slow improvements to the car.
You dont need to buy a car with a swapped motor and get in way over your head.
Start slow and educate yourself.
Horespower does you no good if you cant control it!

If the price is right, that is a perfect starter car to get into motorsports with.

Stock Honda reliability, good handling, cheap maintenance, reasonable power.

And once you can push the car to its limits stock, there are a plethora of performance parts available for it.

Totally understand, Research would most likely answer all my question but then again my main question was out of the two cars which would be best i understand that a stock car is what most would go with. Once again thanks for all your answers. I'm going to pick up the stock Si tomorrow.

Doesn't know what he's talking about. No way will a turbo B20 be more reliable than a mildly built ITR motor.

What class do you want to run in? Both in Auto-X and Road racing?
What conferences? NASA? SCCA? Local Conference?
How many cars are competitive in that class(s) that you want to run in?
What is the average annual cost to race in that class/series?

Buy the car with the LSD.

Do a compression test first.
