Default Remember Election Day TODAY

It's not a big national election, but it's still election day, with some important hustings results pending in places like New York and Virginia.

It's an off year, but remember to exercise your rights in these important elections.

Voting for legalized casinos and for a levy in child and family services after work

I shall counteract your casino vote by voting against them. I would vote for a general casino amendment that did not specify parties and opened the floor to the legislature. As written, issue 4 is bunk.

When the proposed amendment creates a monopoly for specific parties to build and run these casinos as they see fit, it deserves to be shot down. See my post above.

Nobody who wants to gamble gives a shit

I want casinos because I want to take people's money by playing cards. Whether or not any of the rake stays in Ohio is of no interest to me whatsoever.

As long as the parties running the casinos pay me when I win, I'm down.

I too would be weary of any gambling act that gives a monopoly to one party. The same thing happened in Alabama, and they are paying for it. One county and one man has the sole dog track and video gambling business in the entire state. No one else can ever open one unless they money to pad the pockets of the lobbyists and politicians. Not too fair if you ask me.

Sorry my Ohio peeps, I voted no as well. You are correct that there are VERY little jobs, but because of that crime is already up, as well as depression. Adding gambling into this scenario is a bad recipe'. As well as how it is drawn out, I think it's all very bad news. And it's gonna create no where near the jobs they are stating.

I still remember when the video lottery and gambling first came to the Caribbean. We got 8 of the machines at my bar in St. Thomas and people were coming out of the woodwork to gamble. Little old grandmothers were cashing in their social security checks and losing it all within 20 - 30 minutes and then all hell broke loose.

Wilmington isn't even mentioned in Issue 3.

Cleveland, Columbus, Cinci, Toledo.

Those are the recipient cities.

Exactly. They want casinos at the borders. Wilmington is simply not strategically located.

Issue 3 can also prevent charity gambling such as church BINGO. Do you know how many old women will be pissed if they can't play BINGO?

Church BINGO won't be bothered, I assure you.

Columbus is pretty central, I'd say. And Cleveland isn't going to be receiving a lot of influx from Erie, methinks

I bet Issue 3 is shot down by at least a 60/40 split.

It won't matter. The proposed roads projects that are one of the main campaign pledges of the Republicans isn't going to ever happen.

Just hang out in Westhampton for a day or two and you can tell that the powers aren't going to let it happen.

The Republican is going to win, but it's mostly because the Democrat is a very bad campaigner and because it's a tradition in the Old Dominion to provide opposition to the White House in the by elections.

I'm afraid that's just how life goes around here.
