Default Should I buy one or should I stay away?

I like the look of these cars, for performance daily driving it seems like an overall nice car. However it seems that reliability doesn't seem to hold true with these guys... I've heard plenty of transmission failure problems, sometimes it happening a bunch of times to the same car no matter what, and it crapping out even with a grandmother driving it.

What are the known issues of these cars? What year and trim should I look for and what ones should I stay away from? The budget is low at $6,000 MAX before negitiations but they seem to be very cheap, is it because they have expensive issues awaiting?

I drive my cars hard, but not in a high school kid kind of way. I take care of them as well, but these don't mean enough to me to buy one if I'm going to be repairing expensive crap. It's just a temporary DD that has some nice stuff going for it.

Let me know.

I wouldn't hesitate to buy any older Acura in your price range. The older RLs, TLs, & Integras with 4 speed automatic transmissions or any manual model are super reliable. Put simply, avoid all models with 5 speed automatic trans

If I were to get a TL I would get a 99 with the 4-speed Automatic.

If it has a J series V6 and an auto, stay away from it unless it is mid 05 or newer.. Even the 4spd autos are crap.....
