Just checking honda's website and they've just announced the new vfr1200f. It appears that there will two different models one with a 6 speed manual and also an automatic version with two different modes fully automatic and also a manual mode with electronic thumb shifting.

170hp and 95ftlbs of twist would be fun if you could figure out how to shave 200lbs off it.

Having owned both a V30 and V65 of the V4 Honda lineup, I really like the bike.

Having the world's ugliest exhaust is a deal breaker for me.

Also - this bike is a copy of the BMW K1300R IMO.

yeah I'd have to agree I didn't dig the exhaust either but you gotta love that v4.

Truer words have never been spoken. But that's what the VFR has become. Used to be the sportbike, but now is a light tourer. I'm none too excited about it (rather get a Concours or FJR).

The K bikes are inline 4's.

right. which is fine, and i like the fireblade and all, but a gear-driven cam, V4 (v5?) honda superbike would be cooler, like the good old days of the RC45.

I agree. However, I think the closest you'll get is a RSV4R - since Honda has clearly made their V4's solely for "touring" machines.

Hrm, I wonder if this V4 could be stuffed into an RC51 frame or similar. It would be a interesting project

Since it seems most in this forum have ridden a vfr of some powetrain? Im curious. obviously the V4 design is smoother but how would you decribe the feel/responce of the engine vs a similar sized I4? Ive always loved the vfr but never seen one. Ive thought of going to ride one but at the same rtime Id be afraid if I was disappionted in what a what i thought would be a better ride?

On a side not to the thread, I was reading about the supercharger option for the vfr800 online a few days ago wondering if it would be a good addon at 5k? I think Id much rather have the 1200 model. Ive ridden 900-1000cc sportbikes the whole time. Ninjas, cbr, gsxr. Thanks for the insite guys. 1st post yeah me

The pre-vtech VFR800's with a supercharger from A&A performance are about the best all around bike you can get. If you want it to be a supersport - don't buy it. But if you want a bike with awesome power, good handling, and comfortable enough to ride everyday, it's the ultimate machine. I'm willing to bet it makes more power than the new 1200, and is substantially lighter.

The VFR's have simply gotten bigger and heavier as time goes on. It's not that they're bad, but when other sportbikes got lighter, more track focused, the VFR went the opposite way and Honda introduced the CBR lineup. It's like the VFR is an Accord Coupe where the CBR is the Civic Si (though I'll admit I have more experience with bikes than Honda cars - so maybe that's not the greatest comparison).

On the 1200...the transmission would be cool if I wanted an auto on my sportbike. I'll take the clutch lever and constant-mesh trans that I can shift clutchlessly already.

Nope not at all. I just think it's interesting. I do think it is ugly though. How much is it gonna be though? 15K?

thats a perfect responce. Im so glad you said that. Ive always wondered why everyone hates the vtec bikes and now I know. Ill defintaly look for one of the pre vtecs. Ive got 5 sportbikes now but need something more comfortable for work. I ride about 800 miles a week for work when its not terechal or frozen out. I ride just about every single day the weather lets me. Now if I could find a sc kit for under 5k that its listed on the A&A website for. You'd think they could build one to be lighter than the now obsolete CBR1100XX. It was 550 wet.

Yeah, the hate for the VTEC VFR is just that the previous ones were so good. It really made no more power, just more noise. And the old gear driven cams made the motors bulletproof.

Honda has always been goofy with bikes in that they always straddle the line between an awesome bike and something the masses will buy and won't die on.

It cant be light. Its a touring bike and has to do alot of highway miles and that includes lots of wind, trucks blowing by you etc. even if it was light it wouldnt be like a sportbike, im sure the rake and trail angles are also very conservative. Its a great bike for whats its Purpose is

look for a 98 vfr. first year of fuel injection, and lightest model out of the 98-01 models.

i had a 97 and 00. awesome bikes, im actually looking for a wrecked one to build as a project bike.

ive ridden lots of vfrs and the v4 is such an awesome engine. i love v4s so much ive considered an rsv4 but im not prepared to spend that much on a motorcycle.

the rc30 is still a dreambike for me, love this bike.
