Default Buying New Tires For the Fit

The stock tires are 195/55/r15, I was going to replace them with 195/60/R15, Will they fit? I understand the Radius part but I'm not so clear on the 55 / 60 difference?

Thanks in advance

That's the ratio for the sidewall for the tire.
Stock sidewall is 195 * .55 = 107.25mm
60 will give you 195 * .60 = 117mm

I'd go with 205/50 before 195/60 since it's a closer match. Those 195/60's are going to be a full inch taller vs being a little more than .25" shorter.

60 Series tires will be 4x4ing it status. What are your reasons for going for a 60 series? They will last alot longer for sure.

My tires are almost done after 40k+ so I plan on getting some new tires also. After some research, I think I will get some Yoko S-drives in the 195/50 flavor over the 55. Since I am still using my stock Fit Sport rims, my speedo should not be off that much, plus speeding in a Fit is damn near impossible.

For detailed size comparisons, check out http://www.tiresizecalculator.info/

Total diameter (which is what matters in terms of keeping your speedometer on target), can be maintained across different rim sizes and tire sidewall sizes.

I have had to become more proficient in this than I ever wanted. On the 2009 Fit, Honda adopted a standard size (185-55-16) that is offered on only two All-Season tires in the entire civilized world: Dunlop Sport 7000 and Bridgestone Turanza. Lame stuff, unfortunately.

Living in Ohio, All Season is really the only way to go (where we have rain, snow, ice, and sunny dry roads all in one week). The Goodyear TripleTred, for example, or Michelin HydroEdge, offer the kind of safety we are looking for.

So we have to find a close match. The 195-65-15, which is quite close, requires new rims but is almost identical in total diameter. This will fit our Fit, but will cost not only the $400 for tires but also the additional $600 for rims. C'est la vie, mon ami. C'est la vie. It is still a cool car.

Huh??? I had mine up to 105 yesterday according to the GPS. Of course it took a mile to bring it up to that speed...

Yes, they will fit. Theoretically, they will be almost 20mm larger in diameter (20mm taller). The reason I say 'theoretically' is that tire sizes can vary from manufacturer to manufacturer and even between types of tire within a manufacturer. Example: I was shopping for tires last week, and noted the three different Yokohama tires in my size (175/65/14) varied from 900 to 905 r/M and the two Sumitomo tires were at 919 and 925 r/M. The only way to really know for sure about tire dimension is to mount it on the rim and measure. Wider rims will also make a marginal difference in section width. (or sidewall height)

You should have no problems with fitment of these marginally larger tires except for your speedometer not registering the correct speed(*). If you are concerned about that, then check the specs on revolutions per mile. The OE Dunlop tires' specs show 892 r/M. The 195/60/15's that I find on Tirerack show between 830 and 860, give or take. That's a noticeable amount, especially at the 830 mark. BoostLE's point comes across here in that the 205/50/15's spec out at 897 to 904 r/M, are only 1/2 inch wider in tread width, and will fit the stock rims.

(*) Mine is off by roughly 2mph at 60 mph with stock Dunlops, according to GPS. It gets worse the faster I go.
