Default 5 LUG AND BRAKE SWAP INFORMATION: EM2, ES1 01-05

5 Lug and Brake Swap EM2, ES1 01-05

This lug swap and brake conversion is for people still have D17 motor.
But if you want to put in a K series motor this works as well.

Parts:
-RSX Base knuckles, front
-RSX Type S Knuckes, front (use this only if you have a K swap)
-RSX Base or Type S / SI hatchback 04-05 “EP3” knuckles, rear
-RSX Base or Type S / SI hatchback 04-05 “EP3” Brake Caliper Rear
-RSX Base or Type S / SI hatchback 04-05 “EP3” E-Brake Cable
-RSX Base or Type S Brake Lines for each Brake Caliper (by new lines)
-RSX Base or Type S Brake Caliper (check seals)
-RSX Type S Front Brake Caliper brackets.

-"I also would suggest to swap out your brake booster for RSX Type S, Brake Master Cylinder, Brake Portioning Valve. This is also going to require a little rewiring of your brake lines to the master cylinder."

-By new Brake pads and rotors. (You can buy brand new OEM Brakes from ACURA which will cost you the most money, or go after market which are better for harsh driving I went with EBC pad and rotors).

EBC Model numbers:
Brake Pad Part Numbers: RSX Type S

Part # Description
DP41193R EBC High Friction Upgrade And Race; Disc Pads; Rear;
DP41254R EBC High Friction Upgrade And Race; Disc Pads; Front;
DP31193C EBC Redstuff Low Dust Superstreet; Disc Pads; Rear;
DP31254C EBC Redstuff Low Dust Superstreet; Disc Pads; Front;
UD537 EBC Ultimax Pad Set; Disc Pads; Rear;
UD829 EBC Ultimax Pad Set; Disc Pads; Front;

Brake Rotor Part Numbers: RSX Type S
Part # Description
USR7127 USR EBC Sport Rotor Kit; Front; 11.8 in. Dia.; Set of Two;
USR7128 USR EBC Sport Rotor Kit; Rear; 10.2 in. Dia.; Set of Two;

-5 lug wheels 5X114.3 pattern. Stock offset of our cars are +45mm Rims must bet at least 16” and larger to fit around the RSX Type S calipers.

FAQ:

Can I use parts from new SI Coupe or Sedan 2006-2010?

-New SI coupe and sedan 06+ parts do not bolt up with out modifying your car a lot. I would not suggest buying any of these parts. Except for the rims will work.

If you have an 01-02 you must change out your lower control arms!

-rsx front lower control arms(stocks can be modified to work by using tapered washers and taking up the slack)
if you have an 03-05 you dont need to modify the front struts
if you have an 01-02 you can either get the later style struts and knuckle bolts, or you can drill out the strut holes and use larger bolts

ABS System?

-If you have ABS I would suggest taking it out. It is a headache to make it work. If you want to keep ABS you are going to need the ABS system from RSX Type S with all the sensor and cables.

Why does the 01-05 Civic w/d17 need the RSX Base Front Knuckles?

-Well the RSX type s front knuckles/hubs, and cv joints do NOT spline to the civic axles, but the civic axles do spline into the base RSX Base Knuckles/hubs. If you want to use RSX Type S brake calipers and rotors you must gab the RSX Type S brake caliper brackets off the RSX type S knuckles. (Note: if you are going to use RSX Type S Brakes you must use 16” rim or larger)

AFTER YOU DO THIS LUG SWAP AND BRAKE CONVERSION TAKE IT TO A SHOP AND GET YOUR CAR ALIGMENT!

FIRESTONE TIRE SHOPS HAVE LIFETIME ALIGMENT AS LONG AS YOU OWN THE CAR. IT IS WORTH PAYING FOR THE LIFETIME ALIGMENT!

Please sticky this!

Portioning valve, brake booster not needed but would be nice.

Wrong. 15" wheels can be used on base setup. Type S setup requires 16" wheels.

I'm running base rsx front knuckles with type S calipers & rotors. I didn't have to modify anything to get the calipers to fit, they bolt right up to the base hubs.

You don't NEED the RSX Type S Brake Portioning Valve either.

Nice write up though

Are there going to be any advantages coming from our stock brake setup to the rsx type s in terms of performance?

There is a huge difference in stopping power as long as you go with the RSX Type S setup. If you go with the RSX base setup not that much.

The base/ ep3 front rotors are the same size as stock em2 ones. Type s ones are 1.5" bigger
