05 Acura TL Bending Wheels?

I am the 2nd owner of my Acura TL. When I first bought it the car was super smooth. After awhile I noticed a slight shake and got my wheels balanced. The local shop told me that one of my wheels was bent and they could not balance it 100%. They put it on the back and it had been curbed bad anyways so I replaced it with a ebay replica wheel. The car drove fairly smooth but my tires were cupped really bad and the alignment was off. So I put 4 new tires on the car Nitto 555 ( street tires) and get the car aligned. I noticed that it shakes really bad above 70 mph. I took the car back and he said the same thing that I have a bent wheel. Now I am not sure which wheel is which because I am not sure if they kept the wheels on the same side etc. Any advice or has anyone had the same trouble with bending the TL wheels. I live in a rural area and there are no bad pot holes or horrible roads that I travel and I can not remember hitting anything hard enough to bend a wheel. take it back to the shop and tell them to balance it again. maybe they have a (forgot what its called, damn) but its just like a normal balance except that it have a roller or two that apply pressure to the wheel so it makes the machine think that its on the road. its a more precise balance. check ur suspension too.

roadforce. have them roadforce the tire..

I took it to another shop after a friend had the same thing happen to his car. he has a 2004 TL and told me that he got new tires and his car is now shaking really bad above 70 mph. I took it to another shop and they said the tires/rims were not balanced properly at all and the person must of been new or their machine is out of tolerance. They said no rims are bent and it should be perfect. I took the car out and the same thing above 70 mph the car shakes really bad. The only thing I can really do is switch out the tires/rims with another friend that has a TL. I drove it and its super smooth so I might do that this weekend. That will def either rule out the car being messed up or the tires/rims bent or missed up.

its a common problem that the 05 generation TL's and TL-S's have with their rims. especially the TYPE S TL's. im sry to tell you, but the only way is to replace the bent rim.the bent rim will throw off your alignment, leak air from tires, and etc. i work at a honda dealer as a tech and work with techs that have transfered from ACURA and they said this problem happens alllllll the time. this info is straight out of their warranty department.

All of the OEM wheels bend easily?

If it's a problem with only one kind of OEM wheel, could you please tell us which one it is, or maybe give us a picture from a site of which wheel it is that is the problem?

This is the first I've heard of this, but of course I don't know everything.

There made it easier (bolded part)

yeah I got bent rims on my S, does not affect how the car drives at all. I have a 02 CL-S. Has everything to do with the offset and the SIZE of the rim. the larger the rim the easier it is to bend them. This problem is with any fwd car and large rims. $300 a peice to replace with OEM or about $200 apeice for aftermarket. my rims are less than 1mm off but I had a 94 accord with a serious bend in the steelie and it drives fine to this day with over 200K miles on it.

Force applied at the right end where there is no support and bam, bent rim

[ = lug nuts
* = tire
| \ / - = rim
^ = force from pothole

offset is so far to one side on FWD car that the other side has no support and when you hit something like a pothole it will bend the rim on the inside (ask me how I know FUUUUU)

RWD cars don't have this problem because their offset is more in the center of the rim versus off to one side. (this is the reason why all steel rims have their connections as close to the center as possible. hard to do with a FWD car when the rims pretty much covers the brakes.
