Honda Civic 2001 hubcaps
All right guys, I'm new to this car modding stuff and I would like to ask a quick question.
I have a Honda Civic 2001 4 door. Its basically like the following car except mine is black:
So since my car is black, I figured I would pull the hubcaps off for some cheap black rims. Now don't come saying "omg ricer", cuz the car is not mine, and I'm still in school. I cannot afford nice rims nor am i allowed.
Anyways my question is, how do the hubcaps work on this car? Are they fastened with lugs, screws, or just snapped on? My dad was in a collision with a curb before, causing one of the hubcaps to be loose. He was jimmying it and managed to pull it off by accident. I just wanna make sure before I damage anything.
tl;dr?
How are the hubcaps fastened on a Honda Civic 2001 4 door?

Re: Honda Civic 2001 hubcaps
1. Remove the lug nuts
2. Remove the hub cap
3. Remove the plastic washers from the lug nuts
4. Reinstall lug nuts and torque them (in a crisscross pattern) to ~80lb ft

So the hub caps are secured with lug nuts? I heard you had to jack the car up and stuff. I'm not allowed to do that -__-".
Are you sure though? My dad was able to get one of em off pretty easily though. Just by pulling it off with one hand!

Well if the hubs aren't lugged in with bolts or screws and are just clip ins, its fine. He would let me pull em out. But yeah, if I told him to shove it I wouldn't be able to go home. I have strict Asian parents

Re: Honda Civic 2001 hubcaps
You don't have to remove all the lugs nuts at once.
Remove one lug nut.
Remove the plastic retaining washer from the lug nut.
Replace the lug nut and torque it to ~80lb ft.
Repeat until you've removed and replaced all four lugs for that wheel.
Remove the hub cap.
Move on to the next wheel.

Re: Honda Civic 2001 hubcaps
To answer your question though you need to remove the wheel or do what ^ he said and pull one lug nut off at a time they do have little rings on it to keep you from taking the hub-cap off. If I were you I would save your money you don't want to cheep out on wheels you can find good ones for very good prices on the market place and other online stores. You will be kicking your self later for buying ""cheep"" wheels. I'm not saying you can find good ones for a cheep price but the materials that there made out of and how there manufactured is what you need to watch out for.

Re: Honda Civic 2001 hubcaps
I get it now, thanks
My dad insists on just pulling it off without removing the washer. I hope he doesn't snap the hubcap.
Naw, I live in Toronto, where the weather is crappy. Lots of people have em off all year round.

Re: Honda Civic 2001 hubcaps
OP- just take off the lugnuts pull off the habcap and put the lugnuts back on. whats the big deal? a 5 year old could do that.
but in your defense I think its a good idea to go without hubcaps. to me the whole idea of them is so lame its like pretending you have alloys but its obvious you dont. I rock the steelies in the winter, Threw away the caps the day I bought the car.

Re: Honda Civic 2001 hubcaps
yeah.. i def wouldn't just pull them off, that's how one of mine broke by my friend trying to pull it off and it snapped -_-... but personally I would just get rims when it's affordable

Re: Honda Civic 2001 hubcaps
your font color is ugly. leave the hubs on. Maybe you can pull it off because its not stock. Maybe its just some cheap aftermarket snap on hub cap. If it was stock, you wouldn't be able to pull it off without it breaking into a million pieces.
