1995 Del Sol S Build Thread
Hey guys my girlfriend picked up a 1995 Del Sol S back in April. Since then it has served as my project car trying to bring it back to life. I wanted to make a thread to get opinions, feedback, and help if needed. Also, to give any help about anything I have encountered form my experience on this build. If you have a question just ask and I’m sure I will be doing the same…haha. Also, thanks to all that have helped in previous threads I've used for this build.
Work done so far:
-Sanded, filled and Re-painted Milano Red
-JDM D15B Swap
-00 GSR Black Leather Seats
-New rear drum brakes
-New roof seals
-New Antenna
-Custom red door panels/back panel and rear speakers painted
-Amber corner lights
-K2 camber kit
Things to come:
-White 15' GT3's
-Skunk 2 struts w/ K2 springs
-Red JDM carpet and floor mats
Now for pictures =]

Here's one for ya...
How'd you re-do those interior door panels? Is that just strechy neopreme material glued with aerosol adhesive spray? It looks good, but how?

Re: 1995 Del Sol S Build Thread
yea the one pic where it's sprayed black was actually how we got the car...the previous owner had one side primed and the other side with bondo. I can post pics of before....his work wasn't the greatest so I sanded everything down and started over

DIY...Antenna
http://www.dstuning.com/How%20To%20-...%20Antenna.asp
All right to start I read that DIY off the site I got the antenna from. I found their instructions very unhelpful and lacked important info on how to get the old antenna unscrewed from the bracket in the car.
1) So start off by removing the old antenna from the car using the special tool to get the nut unscrewed.
2) Then assemble your new antenna to the new bracket and get it screw in place.
3) Remove the right rear speaker cover then unscrew the 3 bolts for the right rear speaker. With that done peal back the cover that is right over the seat belt. As pictured in pictures 1 & 2 you will then have access to the single bolt holding the antenna bracket in place.
4) Loosen the bolt and it will then slide off the bracket in the car and then remove the old antenna from side of the trunk. (Picture 3)
5) Repeat steps in reverse order to install new antenna.
Hope this helps!

DIY for door panels
To start off the materials needed for this are fairly cheap.
What I used:
3M 77 Adhesive Spray
Lacquer Thinner
SEM Satin Black Paint
Red Fabric (not sure what the material is)
Hot Glue Gun
Dremel
I started with the rear speaker covers and rear centerpiece.
1) Pull off the centerpiece first. There will be 2 screws on each side that hold on the rear speaker covers. Unscrew them and the rear speaker covers will just pull out.
2) After that take prep all the pieces cleaning it with lacquer thinner (paint thinner, etc).
3) Spray the rear speaker covers.
4) Lay the centerpiece on the fabric and you can either trance the outline or estimate like I did. Cut out more then enough after the edges for a clean job.
5) Spray the centerpiece with adhesive spray and carefully lay the fabric down smoothing out all creases, etc.
6) Reinstall all pieces.
7) Remove both door panels. There will be 3 screws that need to come out…then you will be able to pop then off be careful not to damage the door latch and to disconnect the plug for the power windows.
8) There is a black piece on both panels that lines the window. Remove that, it is held on but bend metal tabs you can straighten.
9) I used a dremel to outline/cut the plastic that holds on the bottom door panel to the upper panel.
10) Remove the upper panel and then remove the old fabric but try to avoid ripping it. Then use a razor to remove the padding (you don’t have to do but I did).
11) Once padding is removed sand down everything and then prep it with the lacquer thinner.
12) Cut the fabric out and use the spray adhesive to lie out the fabric.
13) Use a razor to cut the holes for the black strip and the holes made from removing it from the lower panel.
14) Use a hot glue gun to glue the outer ring that was cut by the dremel and allow it to harden.
15) Put everything back together and you are done!
Sorry I don't know how to put the pics below the steps....Enjoy!

Re: 1995 Del Sol S Build Thread
Thanks for the write up on the antenna, it was very good until I used the special tool. The special tool became a useless tool after it got all bent and twisted from trying to remove the original antenna.
Now I need to think of an alternative tool to remove it...
EDIT:
I should spray my rear panels black also, and if I do that my 97 conversion would be complete =p

Re: 1995 Del Sol S Build Thread
thanks guys....I'm waiting on some more parts...ordered a TPS sensor so I can try a different throttle body...I think there is a vaccum leak cause I got code 14 and tried everything (working IACV, Voltage test, diff ECU, etc)...started a tread on that. Also getting a new high flow cat to take car of the exhaust leak.
