recently installed spoon cams and valve springs. Adjusted valve lash to stock specs... rechecked it, and still the rattling is there.

I know, when I installed the Pro 1 cams in mine, the head noises became evidently louder. However, when I got to the dyno and spoke with my tuner (LHT Performance) he said this was normal. Not sure if that's your case... but in my case it was fine.
Reason I asked if the bottom end was built, possible piston slap at startup. |

yeah, but did the noise go away after the car warmed up, when you had the Pro 1 cams installed ?

i had the same problem with my LS, the valve clearance was good, it ended up being the bearing in the DIZZY. take off your cap, see if there is fine red powder in the cap.

Subscribing....
I had this problem as well, but on a P72 Head. We replaced the dizzy with a brand-spank'n new one from Acura, didn't work. Purchased new LMAs...got those put in and yet still that noise during warm-up. The P72 was equipped with ITR Cams and an ITR valvetrain, lashes were stock. Still to this date, i'm fuk'n clueless...if you find a cure...edu-ma-cate me! 8)

The injectors are pretty noisy on these cars - could be nothing.
Dizzy is also pretty noisy.

I have the same issue, I believe the noise is coming from my dizzy as well.

So this is also happening to my head. Its coming from the same area near the dizzy.
It started when my p73 dizzy ignitor was going bad. I heard it befor replacing it with a P72 dizzy. Me and my buddy figured we check the valve hight and it checked out fine. I took it to a common atx dyno tunner name OMAR. He also feels it may be the lost motion going out. Its like the oil and warming up makes it get alil better but doesnt exactly go away. I am going to try to have the cams pulled and rocker arms to check the lost motion for any defects. Now it is possible that the dizzy is making this crazzy noise but I just cant see that being the issue right now. It sounds like the noise is deep in the head near the fuel injectors. Glad to have found this thread... makes me feel alil better that I am not alone on this search for an answer. i will post back when i figure it out and broke as a joke becuase of it or a blown head whatever comes first. |

I thought mine was coming from the head, but as it turns out it was piston wall clearance issue. no biggie for me, as it dissappears quite quickly (i think half a minute after startup, once the rings quite expand). IDK if its the same with you though

went to visit my friends at the acura mcdavid dealer ship shop in the back. Pulled the valve cover off and made the proper crank turns for TDC on each piston. We found that the mid rocker arm on the intake # 4 piston side was stiffer then the rest. Meaning that the LMA's is starting to seize and cuasing the noise discribe by this thread.
Its not gone ... we could push it down but with more force then we had to for the exhuast and 1,2,3 cylinder areas.... TIME TO RE AMP THE TYPE R HEAD... might aswell when its going to be tooken apart... |
