Car shakes when releasing clutch in first gear
Hi. I have a 99 Honda Civic. Recently when I release the clutch in first gear the car shakes. Why is the car shaking in first gear? I noticed it doesn't shake in 2nd, 3rd or any other gear except for 1st gear. What could be causing this?

Re: Car shakes when releasing clutch in first gear
both bad motor mounts/torque mounts and wroned out clutch can make your car shake at take off.
check your motors mounts. make sure they are not cracking nor broken.
if you see any motor mounts that are going bad or are bad replace all needed and see if its still shakes.
if motor mounts are good then you might want to start paying attention to your clutch for any excessive slipping which might need changing.

Re: Car shakes when releasing clutch in first gear
If it was the flywheel or clutch why wouldn't it shake in every gear. I am pretty sure that I am having the same problem as the OP and the shaking is extremely violent when taking off in 1st no matter how slow i let off the clutch or how much gas i give the car.
But when I take off in second, there is no shaking at all!
Sorry, don't mean to threadjack

Re: Car shakes when releasing clutch in first gear
I still have the problem but it's only doing it when the car is driven for like 25 minutes and warms up. I don't have the problem when the car is cold or in any other gear except for the 1st. So I think the problem is that when I drive the car for like 25 minutes the friction on the clutch is building up and it's harder for the clutch to pull the weight of the car from a dead stop. After a while I found that the hood starts shaking also so I had to readjust the hood latch and lubricate it so it doesn't shake as much.
Does the hood latch have 8mm bolts or 10mm bolts? I have to readjust the hood latch today actually.

well it could also be that you dont quite know how to use a clutch right. too little gas when taking of will lug and shake the car too.

Re: Car shakes when releasing clutch in first gear
Oh, and about 30 minutes ago I went to take it for another spin and it drove completely normal! I guess it's not a bad thing but WTF!
Anyway, I am still confused why IT DID NOT SHAKE when starting in second gear from a stop.
Globy, have you tried to start in second from a stop to see if it shakes?

Re: Car shakes when releasing clutch in first gear
yeah and i cant seeing it being a bad fly wheel. check to see if there is a leak anywhere near where the tranny and the block meet. ive seen it happen many times when the dizzy o-ring leaked and it dripped down onto the tranny

Re: Car shakes when releasing clutch in first gear
My wife was recently at a red light. When she went to release the clutch into 1st gear, the clutch stayed down and the car started shaking. She was able to physically pull the clutch back up and it is working again, but why would a clutch get stuck to the floor in the first place? FYI - Car is a 2001 Accord (not that it really matters).

Either your master cylinder or slave cylinder is bad. OR you have a hose leak along the line causing air bubbles in your hydraulic lines. (not sure what trannys accords have..... but if its hydraulic then ^^^^)

Re: Car shakes when releasing clutch in first gear
My car just started doing this today. Trust me its not this little shake like im releasing the clutch to quickly, it is more of a violent rupture! haha

Re: Car shakes when releasing clutch in first gear
alright i decided to pull my motor this weekend to see what was up with this shaking. When I saw my clutch disk and flywheel it looked like everything was alright.
I did however notice some slight burn marks on my flywheel where the clutch was seated (I attached pics). Is this bad? Does my clutch look alright?
Another thing I noticed is that the passenger side axle (drive axle, right?) does not lock into place. Can this have an effect on the shaking?
And yet another thing was when I removed my tranny, I saw that the TOB was not seated on the fork properly, but I think I may have bumped this after I removed the tranny.
Any help is always appreciated!
