Setback for this year came a bit sooner than last year. Kind of disheartening. Achilles on my right foot is acting up pretty bad. Got a steroid shot and they put me on some pretty cool meds. Both are a plus. The drawback.....no running for 4-6 weeks.

Couple more weeks I'm guessing. Put in a not so quick tester mile (12:00) and felt pretty damn sore about an hour after stopping. Been doing a lot of calf raises on a 2x4 and toe raises to help stretch things back out.

Well, going to try to get myself back on the wagon here. I've been running a mile here, couple miles there this week and have actually felt good. I'm thinking it has something to do with the new shoes, tons of heel raises, and LOTS of stretching I've been doing to get my achilles back into shape. The ridiculous amount of cardio time I've been logging on the elliptical has without a doubt helped as well.
So I signed myself up for the Fargo Half Marathon next Saturday. I hope to finish it in under 2:15. Wish me luck folks. And don't forget to donate if you have a few extra bucks laying around. The donation thermometer has been a bit stagnant lately. ![]() http://www.fmhalfmarathon.com/

Going down to Fargo tomorrow to go pick up my race packet. Kind of excited to be up and running again.
![]() First serious run since the achilles decided to act up. Wish me luck folks. It's going to be a cold one. ![]() Average high this time of year is normally 60. With a 22mph wind, that 37 degree expected high is going to SUCK! http://www.weather.com/weather/wxdet...D0115?dayNum=2 |

Well, it's 5AM. Heading down to Fargo for the half marathon this morning. It was snowing down there yesterday when I left, hope it stopped and there's nothing on the ground. The cold is already going to make this an interesting run. I really don't feel like breaking out my ice skating skills for this as well.
![]() Wish me luck folks. Will report back in a few. |

Well, I finished. Not spectacular though. I'm NEVER running in the friggen cold ever again though. 20 something degrees with 20-30mph winds is NOT cool when you're used to running in Hawaii weather.
The achilles held up pretty well, my quads are a different story. Spent the last 2 miles hobbling along because they cramped up solid. Then when I tried to stretch them out my hamstrings would cramp. Couldn't win if I tried. ![]() Anyway, did it in a lousy 2 hours 44 minutes. Not too shabby considering I haven't really done any running over 5 miles in almost 4 months. This was a wake up call. I really need to get my stuff together if I'm going to make a 4:59:59 or faster marathon out in Hawaii in December. Anyway, here's me at the start. It was damn cold.

Was only able to knock out 14 of the 18 miles today. It started to rain, and I don't feel like getting hypothermia in 40 degree weather.
Knocked out those 14 miles in about 2 hours 50 minutes though. Surprised how good I felt during the run. |

Signed up for a little 5K fundraising thing in December. A week before the marathon. Modest goal of $100. Anybody want to donate to help kick arthritis' ass?https://www.kintera.org/faf/donorReg...upId=276559646
