Default Rough Day for Vitor Meira at Indy 500

A miscommunication leads to pit fire

He drives out with burns to the eyes (unconfirmed), only to get into a nasty crash on lap 175

Meira breaks back in Indy 500 crash
1 hour, 11 minutes ago

INDIANAPOLIS (AP)—Veteran Vitor Meira has broken two vertebra in his lower back and will spend at least two days in an Indianapolis hospital after a scary crash late in the Indy 500.

In the closing laps, Meira, last year’s runner-up, collided with rookie Raphael Matos, sending Meira’s car sliding along the wall on two wheels.

Track officials say Meira will be fitted for a back brace at Methodist Hospital, where he was taken for further evaluation. He’s not expected to have surgery. Earlier in the race, Meira’s car caught on fire on pit road.

Matos bruised his right knee and was released from the infield medical center.

That wreck was pretty rough. Watch it on a big HD TV. You'll see him get jerked forward extremely violently even with the Hans Device and the Harness not to mention all the other numerous equiptment they use. It almost looks like he hits his head like in the steering wheel region lol. And yes i know how close the steering wheel is to him....... just saying though.

Yeah, exactly. That was a nasty wreck. I'm not sure what UCLA.lion was watching to determine it "didn't look that bad."

yea matos strikes again, he was 100% the cause of the crash, it was his job to back out and give meira room, which makes it the second time he caused a major crash by doing that...asshat should be suspended or fined atleast.

I think the best part of the race was when Marco Andretti commented on the crash that he was involved in on the first corner of the first lap.

http://sports.espn.go.com/rpm/racing...ory?id=4202974
About 35 seconds in on the video.

LOL. I was dying and the dumbass Mario thought that Marco was the one that caused the accident. If you were watching the first twenty minutes of the race you would have been ROFL from the first accident and the subsequent following interviews.

That Kanaan crash was REALLY scary. Out of no where BAM into the wall and theres nothin you can do. Scary shit.

First time watching; pretty much enjoyed it. Didn't think their would be many crashes though.

Matos was very good in the lower formulas. I wish Townsend Bell would get a full time ride. He'd do better in Mario Moraes' seat.

yes matos was decent in lower formulas, but he doesnt deserve the full time indy seat the way he has been dangerously driving.
