----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------[/B]

Here's the story...

I drove by this little car for over a year, on my way to pick up a guy I take to work. I never saw it moved and assumed something had went wrong with it. I finally got my income tax money in, so I stopped by. The woman who lived there said they wanted to sell it, but it had a bad water pump. I told her I was interested, she said he husband would call me.

He did. Said he wanted $350.00 for it. I said fine. I go there on Monday after he gets off work and while we were looking at it he said..
"Man, if you really want it, I'll give it to ya for $200.00."

I thought..." Wow, what a horrible car salesman!" But accepted and gave em $200.00 cash. I say it cost only $100.00 cause on Sunday, I did some work for a neighbor on their car and he gave me $100.00, so I figure I spent only $100.00 out of pocket
----------------------------------

So yesterday I had off work, so I went to try and get it running.

NEVER FORGET!!! A ENGINE NEEDS FUEL, SPARK AND TIMING TO RUN!!! WITHOUT ALL 3 IT WILL NOT RUN!!

First of all, they had a push button start installed because the ignition switch went out. Well, with a new battery, the car wouldnt turn over, didnt seem like the starter was getting power. After breaking out the test light, I find that the switch was getting power to one side, but when I pressed it, power wasnt going from one terminal to the other. Bad switch.

So I just ran a wire from the starter solenoid and touched it to the battery. Turned over immediately.

Cool.

Next, I noticed first thing the fuel pump didnt prime. I had put gas in it, so I knew it had gas to prime, but though maybe it had seized from sitting. Then it hit me... Main relay. I pulled the one out of my car, stuck it in the Del Sol, turned the ignition on, touched the wire to the battery: turned over abotu 4-5 timed, sputtered for a sec and fired right up and idled just perfect.

I was rather proud of myself for diagnosing 2 different problems ange getting the car running.

I had my dad follow me home later that afternoon.

Here's some pics!

As she sat when I got her, looks great from this side!

Damn...

God knows when the last time it was cleaned. It has a leak in the weatherstripping+the door needs adjusting, so it had been getting wet inside.

I thought it was the crappy lil D15, but the 7200 RPM redline made me question that. Sure enough, D16z6, 125 raging ponies of power

So after I got her home, I had to clean it up...

Now this is kinda funny. I guess either the chic who owned the car (who I bought it from) or the previous chic was disliked. If you cant tell..
It says "F*cking *****" on one side of the hood (pictured) and "*****" on the other side.

"B*tch"

"****"

Hell yeah!

So I thrn turned my attention to the inside, which was filthy. Half vacuumed, so much dirt. Yes, thats dirt.

So it goes from this...

To this!

Made in Japan!

So, I have to do the following:
Water pump
Timing belt (who knows when it was changed last)
Tune up (spark plugs/wires/dizzycap/rotor/filter/oilchange/oil filter)
New brakes/fromt/rear and turn rotors
Charge AC (suppose to have worked, but the compressor doesnt turn on, may have went bad from sitting, may just be low on freon, have to see).

Then its got a couple of misc interior issues, couple of covers need replaced along with an AC vent and I have to adjust the door/fix weatherstripping.

So, it'll take a lil $$ to get her in tip/top shape, but all I"m wanting is a beater to drive when my Teg goes down (which is bound to happen at any second I've learned). All the windows/accessories work aslo.

Oh, I have to remove the fairy/butterfly/gay girlie sticker from the rear window

I'm stoked over my lil $100.00 car, even though it is horrendously girley/gay.

Oh, and you know I had to name it....
Say hello to Jellybean!

Prob just get another hood. it's got some dings in it.

I"m not too worried abotu the body damage. I'll try to get some of it out, but it's not a big deal. It's gonna be a lil beater to give my Turbo Teg a rest and to have it breaks down (as turbo hondas like to do).

very nice find!!!! Well worth the $100. you could make a nice profit if you fixed it up and resold.. or just figure it's $100 run it till it dies.

it'll be somewhat fixed up. I figure when gas spikes again, it's value will increase dramatically even in it's current shape

It'll never be something like my Integra. Never never never.
-------------

And I'm keeping it. It's sol (pun intended) purpose is to be a backup car/beater. <chuckles>
I make myself laugh.

I'm gonna try and get a custom tag: J3LLYBN

I like when i run across deals like this. I got my 87 crx si for 300 bux and only the dizzy was bad but took me a while to figure it out because the owners said they had replaced it. but it was replaced with a defective one.

I am also in love with my 93 $200 Civic. A guy at work got laid off, unfortunately, but he got another job 200 miles away and his head gasket blew a few days before he had to move. He said 200 bucks and I said are you sure. He said, you can pay me more if you want. Anyway, the head gasket wasn't any big deal and the body work was just for fun. Let's see if I can attach a picture of the paint job in the garage.

Awesome deal! My Civic was kind of like that. $300 for the car, and $700 dollars in parts to get it running right again. The most expensive thing was the catalytic converter, but I got hooked up

Anyways, good luck with the project, and keep us posted with pics!
