Default I Thought I Knew EVERYTHING ITR RELATED...DIDNT KNOW THIS

everyone by now knows about the red Canadian market rear itr seats that came out only in the 01 CDM R COUPE....but i was browsing the classifieds this morning and found THIS: HOLY SH*T! i thought it was a FAKE because ive never heard of it or even seen in the multitude of pics ever taken of the R in ANY market...us, uk or japan catalogues. it looks authentic guys...please comment or post actual JDM catalogue listings because its a shame these arent 100% brand-new or mint without fading on top...

seller's description:

"JDM ITR DB8 RED Rear Seats:
I don't care if you don't like the price. This is one of TWO known set WORLDWIDE. Came from a 1997 E-DB8 in Japan as a FACTORY OPTION. These match the front Recaros perfectly. I will keep these for my EJ1 if they don't sell. They are flawless except for the minor fade at the top. It is almost invisible in person, but the flash brings it out. Let me know if you need more pictures."

I do enjoy seeing rare parts.... but am I the only one who thinks the red seats are ugly? I like the recaros in red (would prefer in black) but the base integra seat covered in red is just... dare i say ugly. The back seats are ok but still ugly.

edit: I bet the price is something completely rediculous like 4 or 5 grand

Nice rare part but I have yet to see any red seats OEM or not that aren't faded at least some unless the car is a garage queen and only brought out a few times a year. I wanted red Recaros' for a while but I'll look for a set of them in black. I'll stick with my black OEM's.

The sun is very powerful, it is REALLY hard to get dark colored fabrics to not fade out from the sun. New cars have UV glass so the sun can't really do the damage.

If you don't have UV-blocking glass, you can always tint your windows. Good tint also blocks all UV rays.

Blacks fade like crazy and turn purple. You can't win.

This is NOT! an OEM seat cover...... Someone took an OEM seat and made a custom cover for it. I have to say they did a pretty good job.

I believe bluebomber has these seats. He bought them off eBay a while back for like $800. The original seller claimed they were factory. Bluebomber posted close up pics of the seats (comparing them to OEM DB8R seats) and they do look like OEM as far as correct material and stitching size.

I don't think that it is too difficult to match factory quality and materials is someone is a pro.
Those seats are fake and I stand by it!

I got the legal bronze mirror finish. It keeps out a ton of heat in the summer.

First off, thanks for the thread on my seats again. It seems like everybody wants to know more about these things. I'll answer some questions and respond to some statements here. If you want to know anything else, just ask here or PM me.

The fade is actually not bad at all. The lines are almost invisible in person, but the flash brings it out. You have to look really close to even see it. I'll try to get some other shots if you really want to see how minimal it is.

It is OEM, actually. Both the seat and the fabric. It's from a 1997 JDM E-DB8 as a factory option. You had to get red seats in front as an option, then order the matching back as another option.

I hope I don't because I'll be putting them in my EJ1!

The rears have a 2-piece, fold-down back rest, with a black tray in the middle on the bottom cushion. The bottom cushion is also much flatter with less padding on the sides. Those were made for hatchback Integras, not sedans. CDM seats look just like USDM ITR rear seats, only in red.

Correct.

Also correct, but I paid over 1,000 for them. I have another pair of OEM DB8 seats in black, as well as these OEM red seats, and both match each other to a T. The jersey fabric is a dead-on match, the suede is the same, and the stitching is the same. Even the number of stitches is the same on the cushions. These are legit. I even checked the rear foam to see if someone had taken the hog-nose clips out that hold the fabric on. Whenever someone re-covers seats, you have to remove the hog-nose clips. This leaves tell-tale holes on the foam from where they were originally. The foam on my seats is perfect with no holes.

It actually is very difficult to match the factory materials. It wouldn't be that hard to re-cover the seats IF you had the materials, though. The alcantara suede is over $60/ft from Capital Seating, and the jersey fabric can't be bought. Here's a letter from Capital Seating:

"On Apr 23, 2008, at 12:51 AM, Stephen Swann wrote:
Many thanks for your enquiry. We are unable to supply the black tweed fabric as it is licensed for supply through Honda only. We do however have stock of the black suede material. The roll width is approximately 1.5m wide and I would imagine you would need about 1.5m from the roll. If you are able to source the centre fabric, you are likely to need a similar amount or possibly slightly less.

Kind regards

You can't buy the jersey fabric because it is a proprietary fabric that only Recaro makes, and only sells to Honda.

If you find some for sale, let me know, because I have been looking for over 5 years with no luck whatsoever.

Please tell me where you got your information that these were an option? I have looked at the part books, the accessory books and all. These seats are not listed anywhere.
