What kind of ECU are you using in your conversion, and is it USDM or JDM?

From what I know a code 36 is only found on JDM ECU's and is for the traction control. If your using a USDM transmision, ect. then you dont have traction control but your ECU thinks it does- which could be why you have that code.

Yea the JDM ECU is probably whats causing the problem then. In order to have traction contol in a car you need an ABS system as well (traction control and ABS are mechanically actuated by the same unit). Im guessing your '92 doesnt have ABS?

Anyway if you want to fix the code 36, you may end up having to get a USDM ECU, or just pull the light bulb that illuminates the check engine light, LOL!

Well your engine computer is also responsible for controlling your automatic transmission, but chances are the problem is within your transmission. The ECU is there just to moniter engine RPM and load, and adjust shift points, TCC lockup, ect. What kind of problems are you having with the transmission?

Right I remember, I believe P_Adams posted something saying that your throttle valve could be the problem. I suppose that might do it, but with technically the wrong ECU for the transmission who knows? Anyway good luck with whatever you end up doing, but I would say for now your code 36 def. has something to do with that JDM ECU and the whole traction control system issue.
