Default Cool video on gearboxes...

Just saw this video, very informative and well put together. Lots of people don't know the difference between syncro and dog engagement or many of the other details discussed.

Saw this earlier today in another forum. Pretty neat. I never realized that you pretty much have to get that tranny into gear without much hesitation. Not for me on the street; I take my sweet old time shifting. :p

I know on the Subaru gearboxes they offer an interlocker which keeps you from shifting into 1st gear when you are going for 3rd. We have used these products for quite some time now and they are simply the best out there and their customer service is second to none.

Great video. Learned a lot. Thanks.

Shifting without clutch?? Does this make the clutch obsolete in a drag racing?

Funny that their "full throttle shifting" the guy was lifting, doesnt matter, we got the point though.

No, still need the clutch in to launch car and drive in pits. After launch it allows you to not use clutch and full throttle shift.

However to save the gearset you need an ignition cut, most guys base it off of a strain gauge. That mimics the action of the guy in the video letting off to unload the trans. However a strain gauge is a much more efficient way to do so, as it lets you keep your right foot planted. The strain gauge is mounted to the shifter and when the shifter is pulled it sends the break to the ECU and cuts the ignition.

Since maybe someone will ask, here is the wikipedia;
