The fact of the matter is converting still leaves you in the same boat - you'll never know the limit to a given setup w/o some massive amount of formulas & calculations. The esiest way is to look at other setups & how they've done.
As far as the small/large piping, there's virtually no benifit. No body has made any compairisons, they just expect it to work like an NA header with stepped primaries. The problem is the pressure drop the fmic introduces - you don't need stepped charge pipe sizes.
