This style is going to be the irreversable end of 5th gen Civics everywhere. Yes, I agree that rustic and gnarly can be very cool looking, my roommate even gets on my case for having a taste for "ugly" in cars.

But seriously, this fad is another one of those "extremely hard to reverse" fads, right up there with shaving door handles and bondo-ing bumpers to the fenders and quarter panels. This shouldn't be done lightly.

ergh..i dont think it's the "style" if everyone's hating on it.

i really can't tell what to think. too much concern for attention, etc. i like the idea of it, but i hate how some of the guys that really just don't care for there cars can act as free-riders into this trend. i guess it boils down to whether its from enthusiasm, or by default, that your car looks ugly.

sadly, i even feel i might fall into that category. my RS is a generally a track only car. it's not pretty at all. i've been curse with never being able to find a perfect bumper. its one thing or another, but it's also mainly me not caring; "as long as it passes tech."

.02

and this isn't my car. its this dude, i believe named josh. races a lot of tx nasa events in his DA, and this is his LeMons car. IMO, seems to seem quite appropriate for this thread.

okay, this is my car, it was posted a page or two before.

there are different reasons why this so-called "rat-rod style" is coming around. Me personally, I wanted an all black car and I admire the old skool, that's it.

for some people on the other hand, they have cars that are too far gone to repair without costing a fortune, some make the best of what they got, some just don't care because their car is a few miles on the odometer away from ending up in a junk yard. then there are some people that are just into the offbeat, that want to do things their own way.

I built my car, Ugly Ed, for me and only me. some people like it some don't. the car only has around 120k on it and the body was pretty clean so I went out and got replacement doors, fenders, bumpers, hood, side moldings to put on, in an effort to save the originals. that way I wouldn't care about denting or scratching at the track. I have all the original interior and exterior parts stored away just in case I change my mind and want to go back to a more stock look.

as far as the rusting parts and their rusty piss water, all you need to do is strip the paint off, let the parts rust up outside in the elements until satisfied, then just clear coat it and no more rust water. and another thing, it's just a hood how is that not reversible? just get a new hood and paint it.

this is the same stupid argument over and over. I think about it this way, look at schools that have dress codes, kids will try to find their own individuality's and deal with what the have and what they can get away with, without breaking the dress code rules. then there are the kids that have no dress code, and you will see groups and clicks form that have different styles and tastes in their clothing, any where from jocks, nerd, rebels etc. this rat rod style is just another form of it. basically all the hating is like, the pretty boy kids saying to the punk kids, "those tattoos are permanent!", "I don't like your hair color", "eww, you have piercings". and the punk kids saying go "f*@# you motha".

Thanks man.

I've been rusting my extra (also already damaged) hood since '06.
Having ray-style loving VW friends and lurking on vwvortex too long eventually just rubbed off on me, I guess.
I was already really into flat/satin paint and it just seemed like the next step.

I said it a couple years ago and I will say it again: The honda scene is following the trends of the VW croud.
For example: Shaved bays, low offset wheels, and now rat-style. They were all big in the VW scene years before the honda guys caught on.

Personally I like the fact that more hondas are going rat.
The more diversity we have the better. Its so boring when everyone is trying to go straight JDM.

well it depends on how wide your band them. sooner or later they are going to hit cause you keep adding width and not adjusting offset.

Thanks for that rant EF001282, but I'm going to have to still stand behind my original point, one that I think you may have interpreted as a generality about everyone involved.

What I was saying is many may merely follow the trend without thinking about the risks. There are probably some who saw that fully rusted black EJ1 without even realizing that much of the entire car was already suffering rust, and may just decide they want to do the same.

Rust is cool looking, it can seriously be badass, but some of the...less bright...trend followers may not realize that rust is still referred to as "cancer" by people who try to maintain the lifetime of their cars.

All I was saying earlier was that this (the rust mainly) is a style that those who follow should not apply without thinking of the risks.

The wheels I sell are not banded. They are brand new steelies wheelies that we custom weld the centers into them for different offsets.

I will get pics up this coming week of my wheels when we shoot my car again(they are not the same ones on my car in the pics).

Here is also an awesome video that Skunk2 did about my car and ImportAlliance this year. You can see my car getting built.

It doesn't have to be rusted. Just needs to have that certain retro flare. To each his own.

that shit took hours of measuring, adding, math problems, and all that bullshit with custom hubs and every part of the suspension adjustable to make it fit like that.

almost done with this thing. just need to choose what lugnut style i want, buy new taillights, tint the front glass darker and go over a few little spots.
I quoted it from the TL/RL picture thread. I like the styling.

I believe they are copper or gold. I thought they were yellow at first too but if you look at the upclose pictures you can see the metallic sheen.
